Liothyronine Capsules

I have been informed by my GP that in my area all GPs have been instructed to change from Liothyronine tablets to capsules

From what I can see there are only 2 suppliers, Roma and Alliance

I need to know what the ingredients are in both so I can make the decision which one to go with and although I have found them for Roma, I cannot find anything for Alliance

Does anyone happen to know?

How much T3 are you currently taking

Do you normally split the dose?

Hi - no it's fine as I am currently taking 2 x 5mc twice daily and will be changed to 1 x 10mc twice daily with the capsules

NikNok777,

Switching to capsules really doesn't save much money for 20 microgram dosages. And that seems the usual reason for switching.

The reason you are not getting the information is that there is no other make/brand than Roma.

The British National Formulary lists suppliers - not makes/manufacturers/brands.

It is not at all clear.

But what they are saying is that capsules are available to be supplied either directly from Roma or through the distributor Alliance. It is the self-same product whoever sends it to the pharmacy.

Alliance is not a manufacturer at all.

I put up a long post recently about precisely this confusion - but in relation to levothyroxine rather than liothyronine.

My medicines document does try to list all available products.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world. It is sectioned by UK - rest of the world, and by T4, T3, desiccated thyroid, etc.
