intermittent fasting - change of heart

this approach can work really well with good short term results but medium term I now realise it is not for me.

I place a high priority on a decent resting metabolic rate and keeping a nice body temperature throughout the day and night.

The price I pay under the IF is the metabolic rate falls too much along with it a sense of body warmth - this is too high a price to pay.

Don’t let me put anyone else off trying, but a mainly fruit and veg smoothie as the fuel to start the day is simply proving too much of a consistent improvement to ignore.

happy for others to have different views etc

It worked well for me for a while. Trouble is it messed up my thyroid function too much, GP reduced my dose by 15cgs Levo (not like I wasn't struggling hard before that) and now the event has been and gone and I did lose some weight for it, I've fallen flat on my face.

I'm still mid sorting out folate level and seeing a private doc for hopefully some T3 so going to wait and see how all that helps.

"the metabolic rate falls too much" - how do you assess the metabolic rate? Just wondering.

I tried it too, but felt tired if I went too long without some food so went back to having breakfast. I also tried low carb but again found that I felt weak when trying to exercise. I have since eliminated all animal fats etc, keep my carbs lower than I used to but enough to 'keep me going' and feel fine.

I’m interested in your comment as I recently re-started my morning fruit and veg smoothie. It’s been a shot the arm as far as my bowels are concerned. Magnesium also helps enormously in that department

What improvements are you noticing?

incredible turn around in health - blood sugar stability, resting core temperature raised , weight loss - I could go on and on.

It really only seems to have a really decent impact if the juice includes all of bananas, blue berries, celery (2-3 sticks) and spinach

I have to be careful what I say not to be too excited as I fully understand from other chats on this board that spinach and celery do not have the wow factor health improvement wise for a number here

With that caveat in mind, celery definitely has the effect of speeding everything up - a bit like taking a stronger dose of Levo

I simply do not feel the cold like I used to :)

There is a lot of material written about celery which fully explains in my mind what I experience - but to repeat not for everyone sadly !

What do you put in your smoothie
