Burning sensation and painful scalp in varying degrees. Newly diagnosed Hashimotos from routine blood tests without any other symptoms, only elevated BP and cholesterol, flashing zigzags on vision without migraine Does anyone else have these symptoms??
Hashimoto Disease : Burning sensation and painful... - Thyroid UK
Hashimoto Disease
Hi As I posted previously, I had a painful burning scalp with tiny blisters, that was diagnosed as shingles.
I had this for years...
Then I read some random article about gluten and odd symptoms, I gave up gluten to see if it helped, and the rash and pain went away!
I do now have hashimoto's with various symptoms, but at least my scalp is better
Honestly not sure if this will help you at all, my GP clearly thinks I am imagining it got better without gluten, but I know it worked!
what were your thyroid results at diagnosis
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
How long have you been on this dose levothyroxine
Developing gluten intolerance is extremely common with autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s)
GP should have tested you for coeliac disease at Hashimoto’s diagnosis. Have you had coeliac blood test done yet
If not, get tested before considering trial on strictly gluten free diet
Meanwhile you also need folate, B12, ferritin and Vitamin D tested too
Are you currently taking any vitamin supplements
Thank you for your reply and advice. Having routine blood test a few months after commencing BP/cholesterol medication I asked for a random TSH. Had no symptoms, but thought a routine test a good idea.(I'm a retired nurse ) Well it came back elevated!
1st Test 16/3/22
TSH 18,20 µUI/ml
As asymptomatic asked for a retest which was done- Fasting sample couple of days later.
2nd Test 18/3/22
TSH 15,54µUI /ml(normal range 0,55 - 4,78). Receptores TSH Anticuerpos 4.35(1.000,0 (<4.5). TPO Anticuerpos 6.087,3 (<60,0)Commenced on levothyroxine 25mcg and booked to see medical specialist (until my Endocrinologist appointment. ) 2wks later.
3rd Test 6/4/22
TSH 10.49 T4Libre. 1.06. TPO >1.300,00.
Parathomona 30,00 (18,50-88,00).increased thyroxine to 50mcg. Had USS of thyroid=left thyroidectomy!! (I've never had surgery or symptoms of my thyroid) 🤔Heterogeneous echogenicity, apart from hypofunctional, with no nodules. Parotid area with no findings, no laterocervical lymph nodes. Conclusions:
Left thyroidectomy.
Hypofunctional appearing thyroid
Saw Endocrinologist after...
4th Test 28/6/22
TSH 8.22(Fasting sample)
(1st T3 libre) 3,12(2,30 - 4,20)
3rd T4 Libre 1,00
increased thyroxine to 88mcg
I am due Fasting repeat bloods(also having BP & cholesterol test checked) next week and see Endocrinologist after for the results. Really my only symptoms, are this burning sensation all over my scalp which can come and go for days in either direction.
so you only have half a thyroid…..either born that way ….or you have Ord’s thyroiditis (also autoimmune) where thyroid shrinks and shrivels up
Approx how much do you weigh in kilo
Typically dose levothyroxine is increased slowly upwards until on approx 1.6mcg levothyroxine per kilo of your weight
ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
I suspect you aren’t based in U.K. ?
Please add country and age on your profile page
Many thanks, again for your reply.... Hmmm Ords thyroiditis new one on me. My consultant, here on Spain, said possible born with only half a thyroid gland, but I have nothing to confirm this. I will mention checking Vit D, folate, ferritin and B12.
Currently I am not taking any vitamins. I asked consultant if I should be taking anything in way of supplements, but she said no. My weight is currently 74kg but I'm trying to lose some now after the summer. Do you think this scalp burning is related to my thyroiditis? It's been for almost a year now!!
