So your ferritin is deficient
Iron saturation rock bottom
You need iron supplements
Are you vegetarian or vegan
Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Looking at previous posts…..you likely need dose increase in T3
Looking for BOTH Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range
If I start supplementing the iron how long before I retest 3 months or sooner? Im also going tomorrow for more blood test (Vitamin D3, B12 and folate) and will start iron again after blood test.
I don’t eat a lot of protein and I also been having issues eating whole grain for the past few months it makes me sick to my stomach and causes my pulse to race for a few days. I did test negative for celiac a couple of years ago.
Im unable to get more T3 from my Endo and might just start upping my own since I have a surplus of T3 only issue is once it runs out but I wonder if getting my Iron right and other vitamins might help my thyroid levels
As a regular on here, you know an incredibly high percentage of thyroid patients need to be absolutely strictly gluten free
Only 5% are diagnosed as coeliac, but a further 80% find strictly gluten free diet helps, often significantly, or is essential
If you’re reacting to wheat ….you need to cut it out completely
Suggest you work on improving low vitamin levels and going absolutely strictly gluten free
Retest in 6-8 weeks
Hi Batty1 I had a Ferritin of 15, though normal haemoglobin. I had severe symptoms of anaemia such as crushing fatigue, joint pain, hair loss and more.
I visited a private iron clinic in London and they told me that for Ferritin, >30 was deficient and <15 was severely deficient. I got an iron infusion and feel so much better I can’t describe it! Iron infusion got my ferritin up to over 160 immediately.
When you have Iron deficiency (with or without anaemia which is specifically low haemoglobin) your body fights to keep haemoglobin up to ensure you have enough circulating iron, at the expense of your Ferritin (iron stores), but all your metabolic processes suffer as a result.
You definitely need iron. If you take something like Ferrous Fumarate tablets it will potentially take several months to get it up to nearer 100 which is what you want.
Take no more than one a day (your body has a maximum amount of iron it can absorb in 24 hours - GPs often prescribe 3 a day but my specialist told me that just caused gastric upset and didn’t work). Take with vitamin C in some form (food or tablet) which aids absorbtion.
You are going to feel so much better if you address this!
