Some Good News For Me

Hi

I spoke to ENT again today after finding out the waiting times for a routine referral at my hospital are 8 months. I asked my GP to speed up the referral for me and they've been as good as their word and I've got an appointment in a month's time.

I was so grateful and relieved although my son did point out that this was really the bare minimum they could have done as I've suffering weird symptoms since last autumn.

I also consulted a vestibular physio yesterday privately who has confirmed it's a balance issue I've got as I couldn't stand on one legs with my eyes closed at all. So an inner ear problem of unknown origin at this point but which is having a profoundly disabling effect. She's given me some exercises to do to try and improve my balance and gaze stabilisation.

I wondered if being hypothyroid had contributed to my issue. Have other members had this?

Could be an Acoustic Neuroma but doubtful only 1 in 100,000 so rare. symptoms often overlap. Do you have tinnitus or are hard of hearing.

Hi

No, no hearing loss or tinnitus, intermittent ear pain on both sides and some popping and crackling in my ears. But it's mainly the balance issue whenever I'm standing or walking.

What is your B12 like? There's a Post asking about balance issues on that feed.

It was the Pernicious anaemia feed. I can't offer more help than that, sorry.

OK that's good then, not at all what I was thinking.

I’ve found Pilates to be hugely beneficial to improving my balance & coordination. My balance worsened when under medicated thyroid wise/ key vitamins not being optimal.

Hi

My recent blood tests showed excellent thyroid levels, the best I've ever had. My nutrients were all very good as well. My GP is treating it as vestibular migraine where you get dizziness or imbalance issues instead of a migraine headache. It's more common than people think and often underdiagnosed.

I’ve had blood pressure changes at times, lowering on standing/ with dizziness & my endo did say this could be thyroid related. I hope you can get treatment to alleviate the vestibular migraine Sparklingsunshine.

Hi

Thank you for your reply. Me too lol. Its been a very long 4.5 months for me. Its funny how you take things like balance for granted until its not there anymore.

Sounds like Eustachian Tube Dysfunction :

Hi

I think I might have that but not sure if that causes balance issues?

👋yes it definitely does cause balance issues. Labarynthitus (wrong spelling) . I’ve had inner ear infections a few times over the years and my balance was always affected. You have my sympathies, it’s horrible

I have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I also have poor balance. I know more than one reason why I have poor balance but whether the ETD is also adding to the problem, I seriously don't know.
