symtoms of being under medicated?

thankyou for your help so far. I have ordered my blood test results from my doctor and they are in the post.

I am 62 and on 50mg of Levothyroxine and have been for years.

a scan has revealed a large growth( goiter?) On the front of my Thyroid.

My troubling symptoms are waking up with a bad headache which persists all day with throbbing either side of my kneck.

An upset stomach.

fatigued so badly it hurts to lift my arm up.

I take my Levothyroxine at nightime as I take 20mg Citalopram in the morning.is this a good time to take it?

Will post bloods when I get them and pursue private testing if required.

Many Thanks

Honestly even without blood results I'd put money on you needing more thryoid hormone. 50mcgs is really just a starting dose.

50mcg levothyroxine is only a starter dose

Do you always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

ESSENTIAL to test TSH, Ft4 and ft3

Also test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 once year

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Frequently GP only tests TSH……completely inadequate

Come back with new post once you get results from GP

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Symptoms of under-medication for hypothyroidism are the same as the symptoms of hypothyroidism. They are listed in these links :

thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-un...

hypothyroidmom.com/300-hypo...

The second link has a lot of repetition (the author obviously used a thesaurus), and isn't quite so daunting as it first appears.

Hi Lolalottie,

Have you any recent vitamin D results?

When I've previously been deficient in vitamin D, I had daily headaches from waking up that lasted all day.

Also my arms were very weak and I too barely had the strength to lift them. Really overwhelming tiredness.

If you don't have any recent results it would be an idea to get your vitamin D levels checked. Again post these on the forum so others can comment.

Best wishes.
