finally got prints of my blood work.
can someone help with my recent results - Thyroid UK
can someone help with my recent results
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate
B12 is EXTREMELY low
You need testing for Pernicious Anaemia
Presumably you are on folic acid supplements that folate has improved?
Folic acid supplements shouldn’t be prescribed until Pernicious Anaemia has been ruled out and B12 supplements or injections started
Folic acid supplements can mask B12 issue
No vitamin D
No ferritin result either
Suggest you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done yourself privately
Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Hey.
Thanks for replying.
I am on 125mcg daily and recently been put on 5mg of folic acid daily.
I still feel poorly so I’ve been back and forth with symptoms similar to when my thyroid low but different.
After getting advice on here I think it’s due to my b12 being on the lower end.
They will not treat the b12 until it reaches 180 even though I have the symptoms.
I am just back from the doctors and they are wanting to check my stool (I’ve been getting blood, bloated etc)
They are going to run more blood tests too.
I am just so sad that the guidelines state I need to get sicker before I am treated

It might be worth you popping over to the Pernicious Anaemia forum here on HealthUnlocked, they may be able to help.
Give all information about your B12 - results/ranges, list all of your symptoms.
Are you vegetarian or vegan?
Your GP is INCORRECT
Many people with B12 below 300 need B12 injections or daily B12
Push for testing for Pernicious Anaemia before starting any replacement B vitamins
Insist on full iron panel test for anaemia including ferritin
And vitamin D tested
Or test privately
Thank you. I’m positive this is what bloods I am getting next week. She definitely mentioned about iron.
Just need to wait until Friday for more bloods to be taken x
They rarely include ferritin in iron test Request that ferritin is included
Vitamin D essential to test, but very rarely done
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/286...
Vitamin D deficiency is frequent in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and treatment of patients with this condition with Vitamin D may slow down the course of development of hypothyroidism and also decrease cardiovascular risks in these patients. Vitamin D measurement and replacement may be critical in these patients.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/273...
Vitamin D insufficiency was associated with AITD and HT, especially overt hypothyroidism. Low serum vitamin D levels were independently associated with high serum TSH levels.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/300...
The thyroid hormone status would play a role in the maintenance of vitamin D sufficiency, and its immunomodulatory role would influence the presence of autoimmune thyroid disease. The positive correlation between free T4 and vitamin D concentrations suggests that adequate levothyroxine replacement in HT would be an essential factor in maintaining vitamin D at sufficient levels.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Our results indicated that patients with hypothyroidism suffered from hypovitaminosis D with hypocalcaemia that is significantly associated with the degree and severity of the hypothyroidism. That encourages the advisability of vit D supplementation and recommends the screening for Vitamin D deficiency and serum calcium levels for all hypothyroid patients.
B12
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/186...
There is a high (approx 40%) prevalence of B12 deficiency in hypothyroid patients. Traditional symptoms are not a good guide to determining presence of B12 deficiency. Screening for vitamin B12 levels should be undertaken in all hypothyroid patients, irrespective of their thyroid antibody status. Replacement of B12 leads to improvement in symptoms.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/169...
Patients with AITD have a high prevalence of B12 deficiency and particularly of pernicious anemia.
