Best diet/health plan for Hashimoto’s

Hey!

I need to get my body/health back on track asap as I just had a baby and I’m all out of sorts.

What’s the best diet plan advice?

I’m already gluten and dairy free.

Vitamins? Foods to avoid? Foods to include?

Thanks!

That’s a beautiful photo…..

Ask your GP to test iron, ferritin, vitamin D, folate and B12

But meanwhile keep eating plenty of protein and good fats

Lots of calcium rich foods (that aren’t dairy)

Lots of fluids if breast feeding

Babies are exhausting……and gorgeous

When he’s asleep…..make the most of it and you rest too

After pregnancy autoimmune thyroid disease can do a bounce back ….and it can take a while for levels to settle

Hi CharlyMae

Great question.

A nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory, plant-based/strong, whole food diet would be my recommendation.

That's the base, essential supplements are on top, not upfront.

Be inspired by Elissa Goodman (a nutritionist) and Dr. Laurie Marbas.

Dr Laurie Marbas is an American double board certified family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician.

Her own Hashimoto's story is mentioned here on Clint Paddison's podcast.

She keeps dropping her thyroid meds after going plant-based.

Paddison is famous for coaching patients with rheumatoid arthritis (and related inflammatory autoimmune diseases) to live vibrant active lives, and often medication-free. You'll learn much just cruising his podcasts (all with transcripts).

Short list here with "Hashimoto" as search term.

His own story is told being a guest on other podcast channels

Elissa Goodman is a nutritionist. She hits my radar from this podcast with Light Watkins.

She tells her age towards the end of the podcast, and I would never have guessed ....

She had cancer at age 32, and diagnosed with Hashi at age 34. She had been on thyroid meds for 21 years, until just a few years ago, when she decided to go meds-free. And she did, and is now in remission.

We see many vegetarian or vegan members on here become anaemic and/or B12 deficient

Essential to regularly retest vitamin levels and maintain at optimal levels

Hi SlowDragon

Taking iron and B12 supplements is only a minor inconvenience, compared to having symptoms related to / as a consequence of, chronic inflammation.

B12 deficiency is not specific to plant-eaters, either.

I was anaemic even when I ate meat, including flesh from ruminants, whose gut bacteria produces B12.

Its a beautiful picture of you and your baby. It is right that you want to enjoy motherhood and recover your health in order to do so.

Congratulations on having a baby and both of you look beautiful and healthy.

Be kind to yourself for a few weeks - after all you've just had a new baby and all your effort at present will be looking after him/her. It will take a while to get into a routiine and especially if baby awakens during night for food.
