Postpartum thyroid results (I am under active with Hashimoto’s)

Hey!

I had a baby 4 weeks ago and I thought my thyroid was off as my speech was slurred and I was extremely tired even for a new parent.

My results came back:

TSH 0.8

T4 14.5

Any insight into these numbers? The doctors think it’s all normal but I know I don’t feel right!

Congrats on birth of baby!

Your TSH might look good but your FT4 could be on the low side (you need to add range to it can be accurately interpreted) & that doesn’t tell us your FT3 result.

If GP or Lab won’t test FT3 look at testing privately.

Do you test as recommended on this forum?

What replacement & dose do you currently take?

Congratulations

Request GP test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low iron levels common during and after pregnancy

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

Was dose increased during pregnancy

You need FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done 6-8 weeks after giving birth

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Congratulations! I wish you and your baby all the best! After giving birth you might have a low cortisol, and this causes thyroid hormones to be less effective, so you might have hypo symptoms even with normal hormone blood levels
