Thank you yes I remember you said that only when I mentioned it to my Endo she didn’t seem concerned and she didn’t offer me a solution..

Well I gave you a link to the Thyroid Eye Disease charity we recommend who can direct you to specialist eye hospital units throughout the country tedct.org.uk

In the short term whatever OTC drops, lotions or potions you may use to ease your eye issues please just ensure that they are all marked as being Preservative Free

I would suggest going to your eye doctor. I use an eye lubricant.

I have Hashimotos and TED and dry eyes are often troublesome. I use Hyloforte drops but also think HycoSan are good too. Often medics are not aware that you can have TED and an underactive thyroid, as it is much more common in those with Graves/ overactive thyroid. A few also have TED who are euthyroid (no thyroid condition). Are you supplementing with selenium? I take 200ug daily if eye condition flares, otherwise 100ug maintenance dose.

Thank you no I have never taken selenium. I’ll get some 😀

Do not exceed 200ug selenium as over 400ug per day can be toxic.

Have you thought of going to your GP ? Also most areas have an eye casualty which are open 9-5pm Monday to Friday. ( another Google!) You can ring them to check if they can help before you go. Burning eyes sounds like maybe they’re infected?? Or just extremely dry. Could be hay fever? Do you wear contact lens. They can cause similar problems .I was helped with Celluvisc 0.5% as well as Hyloforte 0.2% eye drops. But I was examined by a clinical specialist to find this out. I use Hyloforte 0.2% or Hycosan 0.2% 5 times a day. ( can use up to 10 times a day.) I use celluvisc only rarely now having used it ( and hyloforte with a hour gap in between) initially regularly for 3 months. As in other posts supplements can help. But Selenium is found in food too so it’s worth looking at your diet to se if you eat much of it already. See a medic if you can. Good luck.

I also have Hashimotos and dry eyes - not sure if it’s TED as my optician has never mentioned it. She recommended using the Eye Doctor mask twice a day - it really does make a difference if you can keep to a regular routine. Not sure if I’m permitted to include a link but a well known high street chemist sells them and you can also find them online.

Your symptoms suggest either "dry eye" or Sjogrens syndrome, both of which need to be correctly treated and diagnosed. Please make an appointment with your doctor asap or the condition will only get worse.

Just another consideration. Have you had covid recently and did your dry eyes start after that? It is definitely a symptom of covid.

Hi Guost I also have under active thyroid and my eyes get very dry and sore. I heard flaxseed oil capsules are supposed to be good for this but when I went to get some the shop assistant said sea buckthorn oil capsules are normally taken for dry eyes so I have been taking these. I have only been taking them for a couple of weeks but I think they are helping so perhaps give these a go. I hope you find them helpful but assistant saiduse for at least three months to give them a chance to work. Let me know how it goes
