Hi Allie20,

It does look like your B12 result is below the low reference limit; if I'm reading your results correctly? Do you have any dizziness?

Others will be able to confirm or give you further advice.

Intrinsic antibodies test to follow

Intrinsic antibodies test is the test for Pernicious Anaemia

See if results are back yet

Meanwhile perhaps consider MMA and homocysteine tested privately

Hi SlowDragon. Have now got my Intrinsic antibodies test results and it says negative. Any idea what it means? Does it mean it rules out PA? Will be speaking with GP tomorrow. I will ask for all my Vit D levels to be tested also. So frustrated received a letter from hospital saying my Endo appointment for end of august has been cancelled and now can’t see them until mid November this is so frustrating. I am not in a position to go private unfortunately.

Yes intrinsic antibodies test is test for PA

It’s a very unreliable test though

As your levels are extremely low you possibly should have B12 injections anyway

But, the GP may decide to prescribe daily supplements instead …..In theory, if you don’t have PA you can absorb supplements

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months, then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

Low folate and low B12

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

Looks abnormal to me, hardly borderline!! Love how they pick and choose when to look at ranges. 😩You could pop onto the pernicious anaemia site. I’d be nagging gp for some action.
