Blood sugars and thyroid

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of trying low GI diet for hashimotos/hypothyroid. I am gluten free for over. What now and dairy free for 9 months and attribute this to an improvement in my bloods and symptoms- antibodies reduced sufficiently from 800 to 100.

However I am still symptomatic at evening/night and early morning. I am starting to think blood sugars may come into it and Hv been reading up on Dr Isabella Wentz.

My current symptoms are nerve tingling, some palpitations (Altho Hv improved somewhat, ) cold intolerance. I know these also are hypo symptoms but I think there may be some cross over.

I have had cortisol testing and I am pretty much in range.. was given some glandulars to see if any improvement cld be made and I felt awful on them- I’m very sensitive to any drugs/supplements!

Wld love to hear if anyone has had any success rebalancing blood sugars. Every nutritionist/functional practitioner I have seen in the past year mentioned that playing rnd with blood sugars may be helpful, I just had enough on my plate with changing to GF and DF and trying medications that ultimately made me feel

Worse! I feel things now a little clearer that the fact I feel these so strongly at night and morning maybe an indicator of blood sugar.

My most recent bloods are very basic from go TSH 1.73

FT4 13 (12-22)

TPO 118

Looking at previous posts…..are you still not taking any replacement thyroid hormones?

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Vitamin D low but in range- taking supplement. Ferritin low but in range- taking supplement. B12 very high in range- no issue. Folate can’t remember.

Hv not felt well on any thyroid replacement meds- eltroxin, armour or np thyroid. Awaiting endocrine consultant apt but trying everything in between!

Suggest you consider trying a daily vitamin B complex

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial. This can help keep all B vitamins in balance

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

No. It contains Vit C which will affect the absorption of the B12. It contains 25mg B6 and the recommended amount for regular use is 10mg daily. It contains magnesium (why, it's a B Complex?) in two forms, one of which is oxide which is used to treat constipation. It's also very expensive.

Take a look at Thorne Basic B which is currently at an excellent price on Amazon:

What are your iron/ferritin levels now? Looking at previous posts, I can’t help but wonder if poor iron status is the reason you’re struggling to tolerate thyroid hormone replacement medications.

HumanBean summed things up rather nicely in the last reply to this post: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Hi I maintain a low sugar diet. Sort of keto but not that strict. I find it helps balance my energy levels so no ups and downs. I’m gluten free - have been for years. Have a very healthy appetite and don’t feel deprived or limit my food intake particularly 😊
