There are some members who have knowledge of parathyroid so hopefully they'll pop along if you post your question. There doesn't seem to be a community dedicated to parathyroids.

Hi Cbreeze1961,It is very difficult to find information out about parathyroids. I had all my parathyroids removed and am never sure which symptoms are due to lack of parathyroids / calcium or lack of thyroid and related medications.

There is a great website Parathyroid Uk which has taught me alot and I have picked things up from this forum too. I think there is a Facebook page too but as I'm not on Facebook can't access that.

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone who has forwarded me information on the sites they know about in relation to parathyroids and thyroids, I know my parathyroid reading is 13.4 and have been told it should be 7. I am not too sure what the numbers are for thyroid as I haven’t obtained them from my doctor he keeps telling me they are ok. I intend to get them though as I feel so Ill. I had radioactive iodine in Dec 2020 and they left me on 10mg of Carbizamole they are now saying this should have stopped when I had the iodine treatment over a year ago. My calcium levels are raised and my vitamin D levels are low. I was told by a consultant surgeon in February that I needed my parathyroids removing and this should have been spotted 18 months ago.

The surgeon currently takes 90% of parathyroids out in the North East area.

Dr Amit Bhatti is an NHS consultant who also does private work at the Spire Hospital Washington, if you are interested you can go on their site under his name and there is an article about new pioneering procedure for north east I can relate a lot to the example given, when I look at symptoms of parathyroid I must have at least 80%

i can't vouch for it's accuracy , and i'm not a parathyroid patient ... so treat with caution, but this site helped me understand some of the details involved in understanding parathyroid issues parathyroid.com/ it's not a patient community , just information.

Well, that is one of two sites I include in my Vade Mecum - in the Other Sources Appendix A - which is specific to parathyroid issues. :-)

It has tonnes of info. And, while they like to attract customers, it appears pretty solid.

helvella - Vade Mecum for Thyroid

The term vade mecum means:

1. A referential book such as a handbook or manual.

2. A useful object, constantly carried on one’s person.

Please don't get put off by the number of pages!

In particular, it is not intended that you sit and read the document. Just that you download it and know you can look things up.

Not everything is in this one document - my major medicines document is still separate!
