I have spent the last few days reading through all the information contained within my Thyroid UK introduction pack..wow absolutely brilliant. However, I have a question with regards to the list of private doctors & practitioners: So whilst reading through the profiles I can eliminate a few ..but my question how do I choose… how are we meant to decide on the right / best choice .. any guidance ir recommendations…please ?

Yogibo,

Match as closely to what you are looking for , ie functional adrenals specialist, supporter of NDT, etc and then locate as local as you can, and ask other members for their experiences by DM.

Some endos are more functional than others, and although functional can possibly offer a better chance of identifying & treating issues (instead of conventionally treating each condition separately) it can be very on-going-ly expensive.

Besides what Radd has said, it's worth mentioning that none of the practioners listed are ThyroidUK recommendations, they are on the list because TUK has received some positive member feedback on them. Even if you get positive feedback from other members remember that a practioner who suits one member may not be right for another so members are urged to do as much research as possible before committing to spending money on a consultation.

You can name a doctor/practioner in a post on the forum to ask for feedback but all discussion must be in private messages only, we can't discuss them openly on the forum.

As well as looking through the TUK list of member recommendations & conducting your own research, I would post again on the forum, asking ‘Has anyone in (name of area) got a recommendation for (endo/ functional practitioner etc)?’ Admin will turn off the post, as individual medics cannot be discussed on the forum, but members can still contact you via private message.

And get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done BEFORE considering booking any consultation

You may need to work on improving low vitamin levels and/or fine tune levothyroxine dose
