T3,only… works wonders for many…However, when do folks add T4 after being on T3 only???! What symptoms pop up?

Just wondering…. if while dosing with T3 only…

what symptoms ( not bloodwork) presented themselves to suggest you needed some if only a low dose of T4… & unlike others on T3 only… you needed both to feel optimally…..rather than more T3/cytomel/ liothyronine???

Thanks so much!

Happy Spring!

That could be difficult to answer!

But...

3 days ago you posted

T4 was undetectable; Total T3 less than 80 percent/percentile … & TSH .003

I feel great… but ….Dr insists on adjusting w an addition of T4.

Your medic doesn't understand T3...

When on T3 only TSH and FT4 falls, that is how the body works

My TSH and FT4 are undetectable and my FT3 is above range.

It freaked one medic out , she thought I was killing myself, but I refused to change my plan.

I explained why and now they leave me to it...

It is not an indication that you need to add T4.

S/he is treating by numbers, not by symptoms, as needs to happen on T3-only.

This is the advice of TUK's advisor diogenes a renowned thyroid scientist.

Treat the patient not a statistic!

It's a long but worthwhile read!

I need high dose T3-only ( currently 100mcg) to function and experienced a similar reaction from medics.

I did briefly add T4 way back at the beginning of my T3 journey to appease an anxious medic....and suffered for it!

However, bear in mind that we are all different with different needs but if you feel great then don't be pushed into changing your dose.

Current lab tests were not designed for testing T3-only!

Thank you for your support. Your reply & experience is so helpful. Just tried a small dose of levo to appease dr… & it caused acid reflux, bloat etc…. a reminder of why i finally found T3 only as my simple solution… except for the drs’ responses.

Hi I added T4 back when I couldn’t take anymore T3 (max 30mcg) I was under medicated on this dose but taking more increased cortisol and made me ill. I made incremental adjustments and settled on 100mcg T4 and 10mcg T3. It wasn’t straightforward getting here and I do have acid reflux but I’m now using lactose free products and will go gluten free forever after coeliac testing next month.
