Hi, I have been on T4 for 20 years, during all this time my t3 has been at bottom of range t3 3.9 range 3.1 to 6.8. my t4 has been high between 23 and as high as 28 range 12 to 22. I have never felt fully well and have decided to try t3. i started t3 5 mcg on 22.3.22, i felt fine to start with, but by yesterday 28th i was feeling achy and fluey. my question is do you think as i have been so low in t3 for so long that it is hard for my body to cope with it, i thought of trying to go through it and carry on, but then i thought perhaps i should try going slower, perhaps 1 5mcg every other day.
I have taken all advice from you on this site and have improved my vitamin levels and my t3 rose briefly, but then within weeks even with improved vitamins it dropped back to 3.9. so i thought a t3 trial was the only thing i hadn't tried. any one else experienced this or any advice gratefully accepted.

Hi tallulah100, Can you share your most recent thyroid results and amount of Levo you take.Is yourT4 still over range? It may be useful to reduce Levothyroxine before adding the T3. I cutback Levo for a week before adding a small dose of T3. Some members split their T3 throughout the day (a pill cutter will help with this).
Have you tested folate, ferritin, Vit B12 and Vit D? Following forum advice to get these key vitamins optimal really improved my health
Hi, yes i reduced levo by 25mcg, I take 200 mcg t4. My most recent results are t4 24 range 12-22 t3 3.9 range 3.1-6.8, tsh has been supressed since a few weeks after I started on levo. I supplement but D, B12, I also take magnesium and a b vit, vitamin levels are all well up in ranges,.. Thank you for your reply
My T4 has also been over range and I’m currently trying to reduce my Levo (slowly) and then slightly increase my dose of Liothyronine. I have to do this gradually as even small increases/ decreases affect me. You could try cutting back Levo by another 12.5-25mcg to ensure it falls within range and split the 5mcg Lio into 2 or even 3 doses. I would look to add another 2.5-5mcg Lio once your body can tolerate the smaller dose.
perhaps i should try going slower, perhaps 1 5mcg every other day.
No, you can't do that. With T3 you have to take the same dose every day. If you can cut the tablet small enough, you could try 2.5 mcg every day, but not alternating.
Any change with T3 takes some getting used to so you just have to stick with it and symptoms will improve after a few days I think. For me, though, taking 2.5/5/10 lio in bits across the day was annoying - I had ear pain two hours after taking each bit so I started taking 20 in the morning g with my Levo and I seemed to tolerate it much better. Still take it all in one go in the am 100/25 - but I know others like to spread it across the day. Just work out what works for you. Give it a good few days on any regime and dose before you try a different approach.
I take T3 only and have done for 3 years. It has been a slow process increasing the dosage but now take 6 tablets of 0,025 mg of Cynomel each day. I take it in 2 lots 12 hours apart otherwise l slump late afternoon . It works much better than Levothyroxine for me as l had no energy on that. Like you my T3 was very low level and T4 high beforehand.
You may have one of the bugs going round. I am just recovering from laryngitis and the worst cold/fever I have ever had and lateral flow test was negative.
Hi thank you for your reply, but I stopped the t3, and felt better, I am going to try dropping t4 down to 150 a day and then start with even smaller t3. I will be on holiday for a couple of weeks from 4th April so will try again then. I will have reduced T4 and will try half a 5mcg t3 and see how that goes.
