Water rentention

My stomach is really bloated and is a little uncomfortable, I’m wondering if this is water rentention, which I know can be a symptom of my thyroid.

Can anyone recommend something I can take with my levothyroxine??

Or should I contact the doctor?

Thanks in advance

What were your recent thyroid and vitamin results and ranges

Are you on same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

I don’t know yet, still waiting for access to blood results. But they said all was fine apart from low vitamin D.

I’m on teva and have been the whole time since I started.

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

Likely to need to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 via Monitor My Health

How low was vitamin D

What dose vitamin D has GP prescribed

Are you lactose intolerant that you are on Teva

Yes I called up again today and they have printed them for me so will collect them in the morning.

Unsure what my vit D level is, I wasn’t prescribed anything for it. He basically said well just get in the sun when it gets here. However I’m taking vitamin supplements.

I’m not lactose intolerant, well that I know of but it’s just the Brand the pharmacy first gave me so I just went with that.

Hi

What GP surgeries say is fine and the reality rarely agree. Don't take their word for it, get hold of your results and post them here. I was told my folate levels were ok, but when I saw them online they were barely scraping the bottom of the range. Low folate can cause many problems including an increased risk of dementia.

Thankyou! They have just printed my results for me so I’ll be getting them in the morning!

Have you been checked for a possible Gynae problem ? as bloating is a symptom not to be ignored.

No I haven’t recently but I’ve been like it for years, it’s not a new thing so I have been checked in the past.

Hi Emmajane. I had bad bloating and a very uncomfortable stomach before being diagnosed and treated last year. I wasn't eating much as I had trouble swallowing but I still put on a few pounds all around my middle. It was very noticeable and felt very uncomfortable, particularly as I'm only small. It took a few months after starting levo for it to improve but I still watch what I eat as I don't seem to digest food very quickly, particularly carbs and quickly feel bloated again. It may be an idea to eat smaller amounts more frequently if that might help, avoiding 'heavy/stodgy' foods, but if you've not been on levo very long you may find it will take time for your symptoms to improve.

Could be various reasons. My stomach used to bloat ..could practically see it happening. I changed to sourdough bread and never had bloating since. You can get really many types of sourdough (I don’t like rye) and now Sourdough bagels, pizza, crumpets and rolls so I’m happy! I also stopped any refined foods which stopped the acid reflux so it’s been a win win. Worth a try? Hope you find what works for you.

I think I will keep a food diary, I don’t actually eat bread during the week as I’m on slimming world however I do treat myself at the weekend to some crap foods so I reckon it could be that. I’ve woke up this morning and it’s really painful today and really swollen!

Thankyou!

It’s rarely the bread or potatoes or pasta that’s the problem (except in volume) but what we put on it! Cooking mainly veg from fresh is always better. ( How long have Slimming World been going? They’re a money making organisation! ). I’ve always lost some weight by cutting out fats and sugars which are hidden in so many things. Good luck.
