Levothyroxine and cycle

Hi everyone

I started levothyroxine for my underactive thyroid a month ago (TSH 4.2 TPO 99.5, not sure on others at this time).

After taking the meds, I’ve noticed two changes in my cycle:

1. It lasted 27 days instead of the usual 30 (I am normally 30 like clockwork)

2. During ovulation (took OPK and got static smiley) I experienced slight twinges either side and on the day of, quite severe pain (could work but was hunched over and needed prufen to help. Basically like period pains). I don’t usually get this and never have before.

My question is - is this ok? Normal? Or could it be a sign of endometriosis too? I read endo is 6X more common if you have thyroid issues. When I was 15 I had debilitating periods and would be sick, went on the pill and all fine. Came off the pill and remained fine until now, and only difference is thyroxine.

Thanks

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg

So you are likely to need 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine after next test

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase or brand change in levothyroxine

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Have you had thyroid antibodies and vitamin levels tested yet….if not request included in next test
