Do you have a diagnosed thyroid condition and on thyroid meds?
If so what are your current test results for
TSH
FT4
FT3
It's low T3 that makes weight loss difficult.
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
How long on this dose
Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Always test thyroid levels as early as possible in morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
Please add most recent results
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis) diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Do you know if you have autoimmune thyroid disease
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
In U.K. medics never call it Hashimoto’s, just autoimmune thyroid disease (and they usually ignore the autoimmune aspect)
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Welcome to our forum but you haven't given any background/history of your journey to be diagnosed as being hypothyroid on your 'page'.
You've only put your name so I am assuming you have hypothyroidism.
You can click on my name and it will take you to my 'page' to give you an idea.
When we put our history it saves us from having to repeat it often as members can read it before they respond to you.
This is the method when getting a blood test:-
Always get the very earliest blood draw - even if you have to book it some weeks before.
It is a fasting test (you can drink water) and don't take thyroid hormones until after the blood draw.
Also request your GP to test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. All have to be optimum but usually we are low in some of them.
The aim is to get our TSH to around 1 or lower and Free T4 and Free T3 (rarely tested) but ask GP when you're due your next blood test.
Re weight gain - you could trial a 'gluten free' diet for a couple of weeks to see if that reduces weight.
If you are hypothyroid and restrict calories too much you will make the situation worse! How?
We need calories to convert the T4 (from levothyroxine or NDT or thyroid) into the T3 that the cells in our body use.
If we don't eat enough calories we affect this conversion. Our body then has a lower T3 level and we become more hypothyroid resulting in symptoms such as weight gain.
If you could share thyroid and vitamin blood test results and any medication or hormones you are taking then we could help more.
Starvation diets are a bad idea for hypos as they lower metabolism further. That happens in healthy people as well, but it can result in worse symptoms for hypothyroid people who are metabolically challenged to begin with. So, very low calorie diets are not recommended for weight loss. As others have pointed out, if you are hypothyroid and on thyroid hormone replacement, you need to be optimally medicated and correct nutriotional defiiciences in order to lose weight.
Why don't you try weight losing pills? My recommendation is otc phentermine. It is a good a fat burner help in losing weight faster and safer. Prescription is required in serious medical situation.
Hey Rmans, have you found a solution for your weight loss? I’m struggling with the same
Hi there, I have been hypothyroid for nearly 35 years. I excercise and walk a lot. I could do excercise 5 days a week and not lose any weight at all. The only way for me to lose weight is restrict my calories to 1200 a day. Before having most of my thyroid removed I never dieted in all my adult life but now appear to have a very sluggish metabolism. I enjoy the excercise and even though its not helping with weight loss it has other health benefits. A friend who is also hypothyroid visited the GP surgery yesterday was advised by the prescribing nurse to look online at a diet drug called Saxenda, never heard of it so can't comment on its use or effectiveness. Think I'll just keep on with what I'm doing.
