As there is no declared hormone content in Metavive it's not possible to say what might possibly be the equivalent of X amount of levothyroxine. It's trial and error. Why not start on one capsule of Metavive and gradually increase if you feel the need, but keep a regular eye on your thyroid hormone levels. I'd be inclined to do a thyroid function test before changing over to get a baseline - TSH, FT4 and FT3. Then start Metavive, retest after 6-8 weeks, depending on results adjust dose then retest again after 6-8 weeks, etc.

Cheapest for the basic thyroid tests privately is MonitorMyHealth (£26.10 when using code):

50mcg levothyroxine is only a STARTER dose

How long have you been left on just 50mcg

Levothyroxine doesn’t top up failing thyroid, it replaces it

Dose levothyroxine should be increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until all symptoms gone

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

ALWAYS test thyroid as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Please add most recent thyroid and vitamin results

GP probably should be increasing dose levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis. Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

In U.K. medics never call it Hashimoto’s, just autoimmune thyroid disease (and they usually ignore the autoimmune aspect)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

On T3 or NDT - day before test split daily dose into 3 smaller doses, spread through the day at approx 8 hour intervals, taking last dose 8-12 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease). Ord’s is autoimmune without goitre.

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s. Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s.

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too. Request coeliac blood test BEFORE considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

Hi, thank you for replay.I have problem with thyroid from 10 years.

3 years ago I had 100mg levotyroxine. My weight go up, even if I eat clean and take care of sport and stress. I have bought from Vietnam NDT and it was working perfect for me. Last year I go down from 2 tablets to one, still feel good.

Now I can not buy any more this medication :(

I came back to Levotyroxine 50mg and my TSH is perfect but my weight go week by week little bit up and up. Now I am thinking to buy the Real thyroid from Vietnam or start Metavite.
