Hi Ismael
How much ERFA were you taking?
three tablets of 30 mg. Why Jazzw ? Thanks
It gives me an idea of how much T3 your body has handled in the past. I think Erfa contains 8mcg of liothyronine per grain, so you were taking 12mcg a day.
Might not be a bad place to start. Are your T3 tablets 25mcg each? If so, I would suggest taking a quarter of a tablet twice a day. If you feel ok on that, after a few days you can start to raise your dose.
I think I posted a reply to someone else about how to start T3 the other day. I'll just see if I can find it...
Ismael, 90mg Erfa is equivalent to 29.5mcg T3. You might want to start a lower dose while the thyroxine is washing out.
Are you sure ? I think is 12 mcg T3....
Erfa thyroid 60 mg T3:8 mcg T4: 25 mcg
Erfa Thyroid 30 mg T3:4 mcg T4: 18 mcg.
I think Jazzw is right ..... sorry
Ismael, Jazzw is right that 90mg contains 12mcg T3 but what about the T4?
54 mcg T4.....
Ismael, it's 52.5mcg T4 which is = 17.5mcg T3 + 12mcg T3 in 90mg = 29.5mcg T3.
¿ you say that the T4 becomes T3 erfa ?
T4 is converted into T3. T3 is the active hormone that is needed by every single cell in the body. T4 is the storage hormone, ready there when the body need T3.
However, we cannot accurately equate T4 to T3 because some people have difficulty converting, so the figures you have been given are just a guide for you to know how much to start on. Once started, you increase your dose as needed.
Take it one hour before eating, not five minutes. You will not be able to absorb it in five minutes. You can take it Under the tongue, but there is no scientific proof that this helps absorption. We just Don't know.
Clutter think you was right in the last moment, but it is difficult to know how much T4 is converted to T3.
Ismael, true, but if you were symptom free on 90mg Erfa you were converting a good proportion the T4 + the 12mcg T3 you were getting direct. If you weren't converting any of the T4 (unlikely) it would mean 12mcg T3 is sufficient.
As GG, pointed out, 30mcg T3 is a guide based on the Erfa dose you have been taking. You may need less, or you may need more.
It is also possible that if the medication is not absorbed not converts T4 to T3?
Ismael, well yes, if you don't absorb Erfa T4 won't convert, but presumably you wouldn't have had benefit from T3 in Erfa if you hadn't absorbed it?
I guess I was wrong taking erfa. because I wore it under my tongue, sometimes five minutes before eating.
But now I've bought cynomel and is also cheaper. I hope this helps me feel better.
Ismael, The T4 and T3 molecules are too large to be absorbed sublingually. Take all thyroid replacement with water on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or two hours after food and drink, 2 hours away from other meds and supplements, and 4 hours away from iron, calcium and vitamin D.
54 mcg T4......
