My guess is that as HRT can affect absorption of Levothyroxine then yes coming off HRT may mean changes to your thyroid 🤷‍♀️.Some people with far better knowledge than me will be able to explain the link I’m sure

My gp has just started me on oestrogen and progesterone hrt and I've been doing a fair bit of Googling about any possible interactions. From what I've found so far, it looks like progesterone is needed for thyroid function. But don't ask me to go into any more details as it's all a bit over my head.

bluehayes,

Yes, initially I was fine, then started having hot flushes but it wasn’t until I was feeling hot all the time that I realised I had become overmedicated.

Oestrogen levels dictate the amount of binding proteins SHBG to transport it around the body. These are also influential on TBG which transports thyroid hormone. Reducing oestrogen levels can work either way as depends how quickly the protein transporters readjust to proportional levels, ie initially leaving excess binding proteins that bind thyroid hormone (making it inactive and leaving us feeling hypo) or more usual when oestrogen drops so does SHBG, leaving us with less need for thyroid hormone (so feeling hyper).

I just reduced by 25mcg T4 for a few weeks, then started becoming cold and knew levels had gone too low, so actually raised dose back to where I was.

The other more complex association is the effect oestrogen has on the immune system. This is more applicable to high levels of oestrogen but I guess if your immune system is already heightened (elevated antibodies/inflammation?) it becomes more predisposed to the effects of oestrogen and any change in levels could result in higher levels of immune activity. Isabella Wentz cites oestrogen as a trigger for Hashimotos.

As per your post a year ago

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

You need to get FULL thyroid test and all four vitamins

Test minimum 6-8 weeks after any significant changes…like starting or stopping HRT

Have you had coeliac blood test done

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

As you have PA are you currently taking a daily vitamin B complex

Remember to stop taking this or any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests

Always test early Monday or Tuesday morning and post back straight away

Come back with new post once you get results
