Hashimoto recommendations

Hi, I'm new here, please help.

I need recommendations for a good endocrinologist in London for patients with Hashimoto's disease.

Some information on my situation:

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in Summer 2021 after feeling extremely unwell with the typical hypothyroid symptoms. I've been working with a GP on upping my levythroxine to bring my TSH levels down. My TSH has now been at 1 mIu/L since early December and the GP as stated this is my correct dose. Even though I was feeling better while the DR was increasing my levythroxine, I have experienced a severe decline in the past 2 months. The original symptoms have returned and I am extremely tired, low energy, dry skin, brain fog, etc etc. I am now seeking out an endocrinologist who looks at the whole picture beyond just TSH. Please help.

PS- I saw that you can't post names here, can you please private message me? I've had a bad experience with visiting a private endo this week and don't want to repeat this again.

Welcome to the forum

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Many people find different brands are not interchangeable

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Have you had coeliac blood test done

Are you on strictly gluten free diet or dairy free diet

Before considering booking any private consultation we always recommend getting FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with autoimmune thyroid disease

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi,

I currently take 100mg of levothyroxine and have been taking the TEVA brand. This is the first brand I was given and I stuck to it every time they increased my dose as I heard it isn't good to switch brands. However, I've come across some posts on here regarding people having issues with TEVA so I might consider bringing this up when I see an endo...

I am taking no vitamin supplements, just a glycine supplement for muscle recovery when exercising.

I am not on any particular diet, but I eat healthy. I don't consume much lactose because I have a slight lactose intolerance so I opt for lactose-free milk and pure greek yogurt etc. I have noticed that when I don't eat consistently (e.g skip breakfast because I don't have time, or eat lunch later because of being busy) that I feel worse and weak.

Have not had a coeliac blood test done.

Please dm any endo recommendations in London. I have test results ready to show.

If lactose intolerant then you need lactose free levothyroxine….only two brands that are lactose free are Teva or Aristo

Aristo only make 100mcg tablets

ESSENTIAL to get full thyroid and vitamin testing done before booking consultation

Many/most hypothyroid patients have low vitamin levels due to low stomach acid, leading to poor nutrient absorption and low vitamin levels as direct result. It has little to do with how good or poor your diet is
