My previous Endo said to me that those with Hashimoto should not be on NDT. Is this correct?

Dod you ask your endo why? I'd be interested to know what answer they gave you. I've had hashi's since 1979 and been on mostly NDT since 2003 since Levo stopped working for me. If we believed what our endos tell us, we'd be told it's all in our heads or we have another disease like Cronic Fatique or Fibro -( like my most recent past endo told me), both of which have similar symptoms to hypo thyroid. I'm not medically trained and not qualified to give you medical advice...just saying from my own experiences.
Thank you Me1157, I too was told that I have Fibro. If I remember correctly,he said that the body may mistake the NDT in the blood and attack the thyroid gland even more aggressively.
I think they might be mistaken. My last one told me I have fibro or CF, As long as I stay away from additives, preservatives, gluten, soy, cheese and most dairy etc. and my thyroid meds are balanced - I'm good. She didn't want me on NDT - sited some bogus study that a kind more knowledgable member on here helped me understand. I have come to realize that what endo's know about our thyroids - can be written on a postcard. Another member will probably address that issue much better than I can.
Some Hashimoto’s patients do see antibodies increase on NDT, and if that happens, they may be better taking levothyroxine plus T3 instead
That’s why it’s important to retest antibodies as well as thyroid levels after starting any NDT

There are also those that feel that for some patients, NDT medications may actually be perpetuating the autoimmune attack due to the fact that they contain thyroglobulin and TPO antibodies (since they are formulated from animal thyroids).
That’s really interesting because I think my Tgb antibodies may have increased on NDT (I’m about to do another test) I’ve been on NDT for a few years now & did feel instantly enter when I started it, but am concerned about the high antibodies and wonder whether I could be bothered to have the fight with my GP to be prescribed T3
First of all, there is no way of knowing if NDT caused your antibodies to rise as they will rise and fall constantly when you have Hashis...until there is no more hormone-producing tissue to destroy (which can take years and years). So, I cannot see any reason for you to go off NDT if you feel so much better on it.
No you may be right, though I am definitely still on a journey to getting everything right so I feel healthy and consistent and not having a GP involved means I’m trying to work it all out on my own!
Plenty of Hashi's people take NDT and are just fine. Others without Hashi's find that NDT doesn't suit them. We're all different and have to find what suits us as individuals.
