I'd appreciate some advice on starting t3. I saw private endocrinologist just before Christmas who has suggested I try t3. She has prescribed 5mcg twice daily. I put my prescription to gp yesterday and it all went swimmingly. Receptionist said they would phone when prescription put to chemist! I'm just waiting for a problem!
I have reduced levo from 150mcg to 125mcg as instructed by endo. She advised I go back on the b complex. Gp told me to stop as b12 was over range. And I take vit 2 with evening meal.
I'm not sure whether to take 5mcg all at once or split it? I've read to start slowly.
Also I thought maybe 8am and 8pm? I struggle to get up before 8 and back in bed at 10. I wondered if it might keep me awake?
As an aside....is it ever possible to raise your tsh and feel well? My tsh has been suppressed since I went onto 100mcg but I still felt terrible. I am a little concerned about long term suppressed tsh but can't see how it's possible to take what you need and maintain in range tsh.
Once again, thank you all in advance. Your advice and support is invaluable.

I cut my 5mcg T3 pills in half and take half at a time. This is strong stuff with a much shorter half life then T4. I take mine dose of 2.5 three times a day. Mid morning, mid afternoon and early evening. So play around with the timing and the total daily dose. You will know when you get it right by the way you FEEL.
Hi playtime2Thanks for your advice. It's along the lines of what I was thinking. I'll try 3x daily but work might get in the way of that. I don't have an actual lunch time. I take lunch when I don't have visits. Should I start with 7.5 instead of the 10?
Always best to start low and slow. So having reduced your levo, I would start with 5 mcg of lio taken with your levo - and stay like that for a week or two. Then add the second dose, well-spaced from the first. Up to you whether this is in the evening or mid-afternoon - I have had both recommended; and then hold for 6 - 8 weeks and retest bloods, to see if you need a third dose or increase. It's up to personal preference as to timing - and how easily you remember - some like 2 or 3 doses, which is generally recommended because of the short half-life, but I take mine [20 mcg] all at once, in the morning, with my levo, as this suits me best.
As regards the suppressed TSH, why are you worried? It's unlikely to increase now you're on lio, as taking lio almost always suppresses TSH anyway.
Having a low TSH isn't a problem in itself: having very high over-range free T3 IS, and this is generally spotted in someone who is hypER with dangerously high free T3 and who isn't on thyroid meds by testing TSH and finding it suppressed .... but this is very different x
Hi fuchsia-pinkYeah....the memory thing might be an issue. Particularly when I'm at work. I'm hoping this will improve. Along with most other things!
Looks like I'll just have to see what happens and start low and slow like you say. I am really hoping this is going to work for me but I'm trying really hard to manage my expectations. It just seems so individual. Thank you for replying. I really have found this forum life saving. If I hadn't found it, I would probably still be on 50mcg, fighting with the gp who offered anti depressants and told me to learn to live with it!!!
