Advice on optimal FT4 and FT3 levels please.

Hi

So following on from my Monitor My Health blood tests yesterday Seaside Susie very kindly worked out my percentage ranges, which are FT4 is now 51% through range and my FT3 is 43.24%, which is a huge improvement from my results in October.. My TSH was also 0.03 yesterday.

I know there are no hard and fast rules and it depends on how you feel. I'm feeling ok, but feel I could be better. Still fatigued, cold, and not sleeping well. I haven't any symptoms of overmedication.

So I've seen advice that hypo patients often feel well when their thyroid hormones are in the top of the range. Or at least 60 % through.

So in practice where should I be aiming for, numbers wise? Many thanks. I'm hoping to retest again in February.

It's hard to say which is why we say "upper part of range". 60% may be enough, 70% may be better, you may even need 75% or even higher. It really is a case of only you can tell.

With your current levels an increase is probably going to be beneficial so test again 8 weeks after increasing to check your levels and see how you feel. As you get nearer to your sweet spot it's probably best to increase by low amounts, 12.5mcg or even 6.25mcg could be the magic amount.

You will, of course, probably have your GP freaking at your suppressed TSH but this is where we have to try and persuade them that it's not the TSH but the FT4/FT3 that tell us our thyroid status.

Here's the calculator so that you can work out percentages:
