Pineal gland

Hi folks

Another night of no sleep with just a deep zombie fatigue with restless legs and arms

Wondering if anyone knows of a private test on the pineal gland and melatonin production?

Thanks again!

How much T3 are you currently taking

Are you splitting the dose

Many people find small dose T3 at bedtime improves sleep

But it doesn’t suit everyone

You reduced levothyroxine rather a lot….it may be too much

Suggest you get TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 tested after 6 weeks on current dose

Always test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Day before test, split T3 into 3 doses, taking last 1/3rd approx 8-12 hours before test

Thanks for replying SlowDragon!

I am currently taking 3/4’s of a 25mcg Tirol tablet along with 50mcg Levo (reduced again from 75mcg) all in one morning dose

This will be my second week come next Tuesday and my plan was to up again to 25mcg Tirol but keep the Levo dose at 50mcg

Reason being I am not converting the Levo properly so why take as much was the logic in thinking

After this, the plan is if no afternoon crash I would retest in six weeks. If not I would split the dose throughout the day and still retest in six weeks

I have this constant ache and headache with facial pain behind my nose and inner central area. Also have constant teeth pain.Dentist says all’s ok with my teeth and I had a private scan on my sinuses for this roughly two years ago.Apparently all clear. This insomnia and pain has been lasting that long.So I’m thinking if there’s a problem with the pineal gland area is there a test that can be done before opting for another scan?

Sounds like you way under medicated, but i'm sure a blood test would clarify that. T3 can be increased every 5 days according to Paul Robinson. I have found this works for me, but everyone is a little different and of course unique.

Bagpuss61 Thanks for replying!

When I take a big yawn like bagpuss (geeez that was a classic programme) and try settle down to sleep I just don’t sleep

I think in the beginning the low T3 and high levo was my problem initially

Thought it would ease since taking and upping T3 and reducing levo but sadly not so far

Will up to 25mcg (one tablet) on Tuesday and give it time then if all’s well will wait six weeks as it’s too early for another blood test at present

Thing is though is taking above 25mcg to much of its not doing anything?

Didn’t know upping T3 every five days was possible

Sure I was advised before to join Paul Robinson’s Facebook group for advice as I hear he is well educated on the matter

I have found it very difficult with concentration and taking things in with lack of sleep and aches and pains

To be truthful Bagpuss61 I can’t see past this forum for advice

As I have no one (knowledgable) to discuss my issues with just reading in the background of the advice given to others on here is a massive confidence boost and help

It’s just trying to piece it all together as an individual

Once again thanks for replying and stay safe!

I would try splitting T3

Take 1/4 tablet waking, 1/4 tablet mid afternoon and 1/4 tablet at bedtime

See how that is

Hold at that dose and retest 6 weeks

Think you may have changed too quickly

Thank you SlowDragon!

Felt as if I probably needed a full T3 tablet my plan was to take it gradually up to that as I’m not converting the Levo properly

Have thought about splitting the full tablet half in the early morning then half mid afternoon after I try taking it all at once first

Can only try

I know it takes time and it can be a slow process but I have been starting to think somethings else is amiss hence thinking about the pineal gland

Thanks again SlowDragon your a gem!

In a correctly working thyroid only approx 10% of output is T3

Common mistake is to add too much/too quickly and (because it’s more convenient) to take as single dose

Especially early on, many people need slow steady input of small dose T3 at regular intervals

(3 doses at approx 8 hour intervals is typical )

I do feel I have been slightly benefitting Slowdragon but not majorly Will start taking a full tablet split in to three on Tuesday see how it goes

It’s just the constant facial, teeth and ear pain and lack of sleep

Do feel if I get to the bottom of that I most certainly will feel a lot better

Just can’t see anyone with similar symptoms that’s discovered it had there thyroid after getting properly medicated

Thanks so much again SlowDragon!

Suspect it will resolve if split into smaller doses

But if not ..

Grinding your teeth…..common thyroid symptom

Causes headaches, pain in jaw and teeth

Mouth guard worth considering

(not cheap at around £300 now….but is stunningly effective)

Thanks SlowDragon

I don’t grind my teeth though unfortunately

Even my dentist says I don’t show any signs and I don’t sleep so would also notice

Thank you for suggesting though

I don't know about pineal but Genova do a saliva melatonin test (test code END09), page 5 of the pdf linked to here (check how to order and receive results from Genova):

Hi thereJust to reassure you I get so many similar symptoms it had to related to the hypothyroid. I get the pain in my teeth sudden onset like a neuralgia pain then it goes. I have tinnitus constantly. My jaw hurts all the time and is sore in the mornings with headaches probably the teeth grinding jaw clenching in my sleep. Also have anxiety and fear. Lastly I have the bouts of insomnia where as tired as I am I just can’t get off to sleep. My legs are heavy and restless and have this awful dull pain. I end up rubbing ibrufen gel on my legs and taking a paracetamol. Otherwise I will be awake all night.

I am on 50mcg Levothyroxine and diagnosed nearly 6 years. Also have joint pains I hope you can find some answers

Thank you summerlove for replying I really appreciate that!Thing is I don’t sleep I’m just in a constant limbo mode off just before you drop off to sleep that I stay in

As for the rest you describe yup that me too!

50mcg of levo you are on?

Don’t quote me on this but I’m sure I read somewhere that 25 and 50mcg doses are starter doses are they not?

Yes that’s me when I have a really bad night I don’t actually sleep I am just hovering last week one night I never slept at all it was dreadful. I never had this before hypothyroid. Been on 50 mcg Levo for 5 years was on Mercury Pharma for 4 then moved area and they said they couldn’t get it so had to go to Accord. Try to stick to same brand.

Yes maintenance dose but my endo wants me to stay on it as TSH normal limits. However I am still symptomatic ie nails splitting, vertical lines in nails, hair falling out when brushing, dry skin, skin rashes, fatigue, dry eyes, as well as other symptoms mentioned earlier. This site is good as it reassures you that all these symptoms are related. Oh and I have high cholesterol, borderline HBa1c, low folate and low vit D again all common with thyroid. Lastly high antibodies (medichecks private sample) we have to look after ourselves and take advice from the good and knowledgeable people on here. I have learnt so much.

Indeed summerlove we do need this site for the helpful information and advice priceless! With all due respect to your endo, but, maybe he should pop on here and take some advice. That might make him get his finger out and help you ease your symptoms!

What do you treat yourself with for the restless legs? What substances(s) and at what dose?
