How did you find it?

I was done but found I had to go up to 3.5 grains to hit my sweet spot. They ran out and I ordered bovine thyro gold and having to drop to 2 grains of that so all over the place 😂

Oh dear! It's all fun and games isn't it 🙄

I did some research when trying to decide which type of NDT to take, and all the info about Thyro Active I found seems to indicate it is pretty weak so you may have to take a lot of it. It´s not clear from your post if you are interested in a bovine or porcine version. If it´s a bovine glandular, then the best alternatives seem to be Thyro-Gold , Thyroid by Allergy Research Group and Thyrovanz.. One disadvantage with Thyro-Gold and Thyrovanz is that they have to be ordered from the US so shipping can be pretty expensive. For Thyro-Gold, for instance, international shipping costs 40 USD. Thyroid by Allergy RG is available in Europe. There don´t seem to be many porcine glandulars available except Metavive which was reformulated about a year or so ago and some users have reported problems with it since. There used to be a brand called Nutri-Meds but it no longer seems available.

If something is usually so weak you need to take a lot, I'd be even more concerned than usual about consistency. Suddenly get a more potent batch and end up significantly over-dosing.

That glandulars often make a boast that they don't manage potency is, to my mind, a major issue. Between tablets, between batches, between years.

Ok thank-you. Something to think about.

I'm not really sure which type, what are the difference between porcine and bovine?

The hormone ratio in cows is slightly different from that in pigs..pigs produce slighlty more T3 than T4 and cows slightly more T4 than T3. The ratio in cows´ thyroids is said to be closer to the human ratio. But, the hormone levels in cows are said to vary more on a seasonal basis whereas the hormones in pigs are more steady. Also, pigs are said to resemble humans more closely than cows.

Thank you for the explanation. Maybe best to try both then and see what works best for me.

Are you planning on adding a glandular to levo/NDT, or just take a glandular? Glandulars are sold as supplements with no declared hormone content.

I was thinking of just taking the glandular, but I don't know now. I'm on levo only at the moment (Aristo) and was looking at something more natural with t3 but without lactose.

Hookie01,

Glandulars are sold as dietary supplements to avoid the usual licensing laws that drugs & prescription NDT's are subject to, and so the amount of contained hormone remains controversially unknown. Members use them either instead of prescription thyroid hormone replacements or as a supplement alongside their existing meds.

I have noticed when some members have made a total switch they have struggled to raise FT3 levels even when taking FT4 becomes over-range through large doses. Dr Peatfield was always a great advocate of glandulars Nutri Thyroid & Nutri Adrenal to encourage existing meds to work more effectively. Unfortunately these aren't available today but there are many other brands.
