It seems that some people react badly to flu jabs. My late husband had a bad reaction to the first (and only) flu jab he was given and refused to have any ever again. He had a similar reaction when he was given the pheumonia jab.

An elderly lady living near me said that she reacts badly to flu jabs, so she wasn't going to have a coronavirus jab - no amount of telling her that they were different would make her change her mind.

I had a terrible reaction a five years ago and I hadn’t ever had a bad reaction before .. My mouth and lips swelled up and I had to call an ambulance. I didn’t have the flu jab again until last year and although I didn’t have the same reaction I felt very ill for three weeks. I had chronic fatigue, brain fog and was aching everywhere.

I had my first covid vaccine last week and the fatigue was chronic I felt absolutely terrible and my heart was racing for three days. I had to see my cardiologist and be monitored for 24 hours .

I feel absolutely fine now and although I feel hesitant about having the second vaccine I will go ahead with it.

It’s about weighing up the risks of a reaction to any vaccine verses the actual disease. So difficult for those of us who have challenging illnesses.

Take care x

Make sure you rest and do nothing. Drink plenty and let others look after you if possible.

From what I have read, if you had a bad reaction to the first Corona virus vaccine, you are unlikely to have it as bad after the second. Just a bit of tiredness. So don't worry about it.

Thanks for that. I am a nurse myself so did expect it. I have a heart aneurysm so my heart rate was very erratic for a few days and showed signed of Atrial fibrillation. It seems to have settled down now but the cardiologist put me on a monitor for 24 hours just to keep an eye on it.

I do feel hesitant about getting the second one but I feel I don’t really have a choice especially now that all NHS staff have to have it.

I have permanent AF. But it didn't upset it. A few days of discomfort is better than getting badly sick with Covid. That would do my heart in.

Over the years, have you ever considered a more natural protection instead by optimising key nutrients for your immune system eg vitamin D? There's some good scientific evidence.

Apparently people may have bad reactions to it this year as we didn’t have the flu jab around last year due to covid. Hope you feel better soon x

We did have a flu vaccine last year. I went to the surgery flu clinic for mine. It was remarkable how they had set it up. Slick as a factory production line. Considering we were in the throws of Covid it was a work of art.

Yes. I should have it but I don’t. It made me very ill for about a month, both times i had it.

Yes I take vit D and all the other vitamins suggested here. I was very apprehensive about the vaccine but we now have to have it to work. I just had my first one as I waited as long as I could. Also had thyroid surgery in February so they wouldn’t let me have it before hand. I was surprised at that tbh .

So I presume you know your main nutrient serum levels incl vit D?

Tanya-B profile image
Tanya-B in reply to userotc

I have just ordered a Medichecks blood test for full thyroid and vitamin levels. My GP did blood test three months ago and most were optimal. Feeling exhausted so checking myself to make sure .

If you're referring to NHS guidance, Im unsure if there's an accepted "optimal" vit D level. Unless you mean the circa. 100nmol/l level NHS apparently accepts is good (link below) which is broadly in agreement with this forum? openaccessgovernment.org/ne...

Yes I take vitamin D and get tested every 6 months to check my level (to make sure it’s optimal).

For virus protection, serum 100-150 nmol/l is generally recommended.

Yup. Just over that level.

HiI've found it varies on the strains in each jab, each year they try and identify the flu strains that they predict are most likely to affect us and the jab changes accordingly.

I get a jab most years due to asthma but a few years ago I stopped getting one for a while because my arm came up in a big, red swollen lump that was incredibly sore and hot for days. It was right across my arm.

But I got a bad chest infection a couple of years ago after having a bad cold so I decided to get it again and the last two I've had, including this year's I've been fine. Just a little tender in my arm for a few days.

I had my flu jab 2 weeks ago. I was fine. Just a bit of a sore muscle at the needle site if I laid on it or rubbed it hard.

It's worth noting that I'm feeling very hypo and unwell from that at the moment. But even so, the flu and Corona vaccinations haven't made me feel anything other than a couple of days of sleepy after Coronna 1.

Thank you all who replied to my question, I had flu jab on Tuesday and feel as if I was run over by a bus , as well as other symptoms. Take care all x

I had mine a month ago and after 2 days I felt quite ill + swollen red and throbbing arm at the injection site. I've only ever had 2 previous flue injections ( to protect my partner ) and had no reaction at all.

My Covid Booster was due at the same time I am so glad I decided to wait as only now am I feeling well enough to have it.

Hi, I've not had mine yet but I'm due to get it anytime now. What I don't like or agree with is, your getting the flu Jab along with the Covid Booster.

My flu jab was cancelled (no vaccine 🙄) so the date be coincides with when I should get my booster for Covid but the surgery has not invited me for both at once. Now I don’t know what gap if any I should leave between the two and whether it is best to have a double whammy of side effects or 2 individual lots of them. Was ok with the fully jab last year bar está popping and arm sore gur a few hours but the AZ was not so nice!

Arm hurt a bit and I got curious popping in my ears which is a side effect apparently but it wasn’t too bad at all. Still waiting for this years flu jab which some say is worse fir side effects. I suffered with AZ for covid which I posted about in error - would help if I read your post properly! 🙄
