After a year of being out of range after a blip I was finally back in range in sept 2020, of course as soon at the tsh was ok the Ft4 bloodwork was stopped ( nhs) I knew something wasn’t right so continued having quarterly bloods done privately all of which showed my Ft4 was out of range, I had a lump in my throat which was investigated by ultrasound my thyroid had enlarged on both lobes, I was sent to ent but to a rhinologist, who didn’t even look at my thyroid, all in all I’ve been having symptoms of hyper all of this time, I’ve lost 3 st , excessive sweating, anxiety, palpitations etc, now I know that Ft4 is converted to t3 but having excess and then feeding my body with 125mcg of levothyroxine daily has finally tipped the balance, I had lab bloods taken 3 months ago but because tsh was ok Ft4 wasn’t done again so I had them done privately which showed a further increase in Ft4, my dr finally listened and ordered tsh + Ft4 bloods and low and behold they’ve come back abnormal! Suppressed tsh and out of range Ft4, so that’s 2 years I’ve been fighting for proper treatment of my Hashi/thyroiditis and now I have to wait and see what the journey holds for me now.

The moral of the story is you know your body best, if your doctor isn’t listening, find one that will, i will certainly be changing after this debacle.

But what is your FT3 level? That's the most important number.

Like usual it wasn’t tested but I have only had the symptoms since my increase since September 20, I was sub clinical until then with a Ft4 of around 12, only when my dose was increased to bring my tsh back into range , (it went up to 6.9) did the symptoms start., I reduced my meds 2 months ago to see if it made any difference to how I felt, it didn’t, but I thought it worth a try, I’m not going to keep pumping levo into my body when there’s actually too much Ft4 anyway, there’s nothing else that would account for these symptoms that I haven’t been tested for so now my doc can get his arrogant arse out of his head and do something about it instead of you know I can’t rely on private lab results, well here’s the nhs lab validating what I’ve been telling him for a year

OK, but an over-range FT4 doesn't tell you much. You could be a poor converter and your FT3 is low, and reducing your levo will lower it even further. And, it's low T3 that causes symptoms. Your symptoms could have been hypo symptoms all along.
