Was this a repeat test after you had a above range TSH?
The TSH has come down back into range but the FT4 looks low, we would need lab reference range to accurately interpret.
Im guessing nothing else was tested such as FT3 or antibodies? If your FT3 was also low or under range you would likely feel many symptoms.
The TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is a pituitary hormone it rises when thyroid hormones are low, signalling the thyroid to increase levels of new hormone. the higher it is the more the thyroid is struggling. So the assumption is if the TSH is in range the FT4 & FT3 are adequate. If levels fluctuate it’s not always an accurate measure.
The reception staff told me TSH was 9 but since then I have got a print out of results ,only TSH and T4 tested
The TSH is 2.48 on that test. The FT4 is 9.6. So you were told wrong. What were the ranges on the printout?
T4 range (8.0-16.0),,TSH range (0.38-5.33)
FT4 is low in range at 20% but as results within in range a doctor would say there’s no requirement to treat.
You might progress quicker if you arrange a private test to test full function, nutrients and antibodies, unless doctor willing to.
If antibodies are positive you can argue hypothyroid levels are inevitable and agree earlier treatment.
You will also be able to improve any nutrient deficiencies you need to.
