Long post coming up! I joined this forum a couple of years ago after my fella was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and subsequently had a full thyroidectomy and RAI therapy. I’ve been reading with interest your advice and guidance to other people with thyroid problems.

I wanted to ask for your experienced eyes to take a look at his recent test results please.

He’s recently been suffering from insomnia, high anxiety, heartburn, taking a deep breath and not feeling like he can take in any oxygen, leg cramps and generally feeling unwell. He had some of these symptoms previously, but they all seem to have got worse recently, so he did a Medichecks blood test.

He’s 6 ft / 11.5 stone. 51 years old.

Below are all the blood test results we could find from just before thyroidectomy to the present, but there are some gaps where results were given by phone and we were just told they were ok (included in case previous results are helpful)

23rd August 2018

Free FT4 14.2pmol/L. (ref range: 9.0 -22.0)

TSH 1.32uIU/mL (ref range: 0.35 -4.94)

C-Reactive protein 1.9mg/L (ref range: 0-10)

22nd October 2018

Pretty sure he was put on 100mcg Levo per day after the op.

Notes: HIGH TSH. Change Levo to 125mcg per day. Retest in 6-8 weeks.

28th June 2019

Free T4 23.9 pmol/L. (ref range: 10.5 - 24.5)

TSH 0.16mU/L. (ref range: 0.27 -4.2)

Notes: LOW TSH. Continue on current dose of levo.

26th - 27th November 2019

23rd December 2019

If you’ve read this far, thank you, and please let me know if you think there is anything significant in this recent set of results.

Vit d is low. Looking for a result around 100. B12 and ferritin look low to me too. As a rough guide I look for the level to be over halfway and into the top third of range .Optimising vitamins will help body us thyroid hormones efficiently so this is essential.

Once supplementing and note vit d is taken 4 hours away from levo, others 2 hours away, he could benefit from an increase in levo dose if still symptomatic.

Thanks for your reply Lalatoot xThat’s good to know that even though Vit D, B12 and ferritin are in range, they could be higher - I’ve shown him your post. He takes vits in the morning and Levo at night. Turns out he hasn’t been taking the vits recently…
