Searching by “most positive” experience.

I don’t know who runs Health unlocked or how, but I find this idea of searching by “most positive” experience really weird, as an algorithmic response to boost.

I don’t come here to get “positive” answers, I come here to offer support and advice, ask for advice and receive advice that is based on facts, experience and research.

Is it just me or “positivism” a woo-woo aim for a site like this?

I just gave it a try to see what I’d get if I searched for the word “pain”.

I’m not sure the algorithm works… 😂

With other searches, what it seemed to bring back were posts with “Happy Christmas” and “Happy New Year” in the title.

Not sure this is necessarily a very useful bit of functionality.

The search facility has always been a bit strange and often ineffective.

You can learn about who HealthUnlocked are by scrolling to the bottom of the page (on a PC, not sure about other devices), there is a link to "About Us" and other links.

HealthUnlocked is the platform which freely provides these forums for charities, it is nothing to do with ThyroidUK or any of the other charities who use this platform.

ThyroidUK, nor any of the other charities, have anything to do with what is offered or how it's run. I'm sure if we did then the search facility would be more useful!

It might be interesting if you asked HealthUnlocked your question. There is a "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

I’m more than glad the platform exists! I just wonder where the “positive news” angle comes from. Not from a doctor!

I can understand that if you are suffering, you might not want to read about lots of other people suffering.

But I completely agree that it is weird - especially with the difficulty of assessing positiveness by reading someone's writing. Most attempts at humour are likely to mis-trigger classification.

Oh god. And with the worst jokes being returned highest up in the searches?

I've never tried hitting 'most positive ' in search ..... but i'm pretty sure the whole search facility here is basically 'pants' . I've tried searching for stuff where i know full well there IS a TUK forum post, mentioning exactly what i've searched for ... and it still comes back with 'nothing found' and/or a list of largely unrelated posts . So i think "oh ,maybe that post's been deleted... "

Then when i eventually do find the post i was after, by spending 90 minutes going through my old replies .. there it still is .. with what i searched for clearly in it, bold as you like.

So i don't know who wrote the search algorithm .... but so far, using it hasn't been a 'positive experience' , and i now rarely bother to use it to search for anything .. positive or otherwise .

I’ve had this experience just this morning, searching for posts that I know are up here and very recent, that detail supplements I want to buy. Because I couldn’t find them, I couldn’t buy them. My response to the basic search mechanism is not positive!

I have quite often reverted to seaching with one of the standard search engines. Adding "site:.healthunlocked.com" or similar.

It often finds things the built-in search never locates.

Now I’ve learned something

well blow me it does work sometimes .... i just searched for "i hate positivity" and clicked 'by most positive' . It came up with 5 posts, one of which starts: "I truly hate the relentless positivity of so many people"

So if you insert the word “positive” in your posts they go to the top of the response list?

I just don’t see this as a “positive” development

lets all put posts up with the title " the search facility on HU is positively crap"

There are so many things about HU that are positive for all of us … am not sure I want to start messing with their algorithm completely!!

Would love to hear any suggestions on what the third search option - beside newest and most relevant - should be, if not “most positive” results.
