Teva Liothyronine shortage?

MaryMary profile image
11 Replies

I’ve just been to the pharmacy to collect Teva Liothyronine to be told there’s a shortage from the manufacturer. Not sure if I’m being told this because someone ignored their system which says to order Teva? Is anyone in this situation? Have been given Mercury Pharma.

Thanks

There is another thread discussing unavailability of Teva liothyronine - here:

I usually urge everyone affected to contact the manufacturer - Teva.

Good advice! I’ve had loads of problems in the past and have really had to put my foot down with the pharmacist-in a nice way. They call us Teva Divas - I’m ok with that! I’ll contact Teva if I’m told there is a shortage.

highly unlikely

Take prescription to another pharmacy

If you need lactose free levothyroxine they can’t give you one containing lactose

Thanks, I’ve emailed the manufacturer. Usually the local pharmacy is very responsive to my requests and they have taken my telephone number. I have a batch prescription so will have to return and try to sort this out.

Suggest that you also contact Teva.

In my view, everyone affected should do so. If nothing else, it will show on Teva's internal contact statistics.

(I am waiting for a Teva medicine. It won't be available again until 2025... I am NOT impressed.)

I’ve had a response from Teva that there are NO supply issues with their 20mcg Liothyronine and that it should be available for the pharmacies to buy from wholesalers.

I’ll be going back to the pharmacy I use asap.

Thank you.

Suggests the issue is nearer the pharmacy - maybe the distributor?
