Just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone who has advised me about my latest blood test. I wrote to my GP last week and basically gave her both barrels (in a firm but polite way) ๐ To cut a long story short, told her I thought my TSH was way too high in the range and that I was very unhappy about not being consulted about my treatment. I also included all the highlighted information that you have kindly given me here and requested a dose increase.
Well, I've got my much needed increase of Levo and a promise from her to become better informed and up to date on Thyroid issues. She telephoned me today and was very apologetic, in fact I think she was just a little frightened (she asked me if I wanted to complain). So I feel like I may be seeing a some light at the end of a very long tunnel. Couldn't have done it without you guys, so thank you, you're all amazing !!!

Thank you Susie, I'd be honoured to accompany you to the doc's anytime ๐๐
Congratulations ! That wasnโt an easy thing todo and it proves how important the help is on here. Iโm so pleased you sharedthat : good luck with your treatment x
Thank you. It was easier than I thought and it got the right result which is what counts. The help from this forum has been invaluable to me as a newbie to the world of living without a thyroid.
It really cheered me up to read your post ! You did it ๐
Wow, what a result. Well done to you, I know how difficult it is to get a GP to take any notice of you because obviously they know best ๐. This made me smile today so thank you for letting us know the outcome.
That's so great! There's a lot to absorb here. Would you mind providing the info that you used to convince her? I haven't been so lucky. Congrats! Thank you in advance.
congratulations on your (impressive ) success in improving one more GP's awareness of their embarrassing lack of training on thyroid treatment. Their future patient's will thank you too.
And hopefully GP's sometimes talk to each other over coffee, and sometimes they write responses to BMJ articles.... so little by little , as more and more of them realise their patient knew more than they did , more of them will be embarrassed enough , and worried enough , to do some of their own reading beyond just the NICE guidelines, and the blinkered "in-range TSH is 'normal', No Further Action Needed" teaching that they were fed at medical school.
Your " I trained a Doctor today" badge is on it's way
(unfortunately your training fee, and your letter of thanks from the NHS .... may be a bit slower in coming )
Hi TattyThank you but I couldn't have done it with out the help I had here !! My Doc is also responsible for training other GP's at my medical centre so she suggested doing some new up to date training for the other members of staff on Thyroid treatment guidelines too.
I couldn't believe it to be honest, she even admitted that "every patient is different and what works for one may not work for another", so it was a good result all round ๐๐
Good news is what we want and to feel well again is wonderful and it is also a surprise when symptoms resolve when on the proper dose for us personally and the right thyroid hormone - be it Levo or Lio (T4 or T3),
