I potentially have thyroiditis and/or Hashimoto’s with an underactive thryoid shown by TSH & antibodies on several previous blood tests. My GP wants me to take a menopause blood test to rule this out before my endo appointment for the hot flushing and sudden sweating symptoms. I’m age 39 so she wants to check that I’m not peri menopausal. It feels like my thermostat is broken. Is there a more appropriate time during the monthly cycle or time of day to get the most accurate results?
Thank you

Yes to all of those. Just ticking the boxes for my GP. Do you know the answer to my questions regarding timings of blood tests or is it not like having thyroid blood test first thing in the day/ mid cycle?
I used Medichecks. Think it was 3-5 days of your cycle. Follicular phase?? I think that hormones can fluctuate considerably so I think it’s prudent to view this as one snap shot in time if you get my meaning?
It is possible to suffer perimenopausal symptoms for a long time and I sympathise with the hot flushes etc. I think I was probably around 33/34 when mine started.
Interesting to see that your GP ( and I emphasise the ‘G’ as in general) wants tests first. So what if you are entering that time? Does that mean it’ll be hrt rather than thyroid being taken seriously? If they do flag up then you will need to deal with both issues. Not just one of them.
Don’t let your GP fob you off with menopause/HRT. For some reason that is a ‘better/more acceptable’ diagnosis for women from their GPs than hypothyroidism. Happened to me and I spend 4 years on undiagnosed and 18 months on unnecessary HRT…
