t3 dosing

(in despair) discovered t3 working (sublingually). i was up to 242 lbs (norm 140), total myxedema coma situ (gp a blank - i began crying & not a thing). not sleeping much between sweating & peeing, already 1 size down but my high arches fell etc so that pain cycle begins soon. now, i have no idea correct dose & think i might be over dosing. used to be on 200 mcg desiccated - any suggestion? am mid move so not great with communication.

Gp wouldn’t take panel. My state was acceptable to him. During COVID. 18 months isolating with no end in sight.

I’m struggling to understand the situation here but I think you’re saying you used to be on 200mg NDT (about 3 grains). In that 3 grains would have been approximately 27mcg of T3 and approximately 116mcg of T4.

T3 is roughly 3 times as potent (some say 4 times as potent) as T4. It’s not exact but it gives an indicator of what your equivalent dosage of T3 might be.

116/3 = roughly 39mcg of T3

116/4 = roughly 29mcg of T3

So, your 3 grains of desiccated thyroid is (very roughly) equivalent to 27 + 29 (or 39) = 56 - 66mcg of liothyronine per day.

I’d say 60mcg daily might be something close to an equivalent dose to the Thai NDT you were taking.

That said, no one here would recommend that you suddenly start taking 60mcg of T3—you’d need to work your way up over the course of several months.

But I write this to provide some reassurance about how much T3 might be too much.

How much are you taking now sublingually?

(Like I said, if it’s a lot less than 60mcg please don’t start taking that much immediately—you need to go “low and slow”, otherwise you could get yourself into a mess with a racing heart beat and other unpleasant side effects.)
