My daughter (48, happy with 2 children, an almost-qualified Naturopath) has fibroid 15cmx10cmx5cm according to recent scans. Has own blood supply. Just gone through a few days of considerable pain during period time. She has decisions to make. I have searched posts on here, especially Fcake, mand-54 and Cammiebabe. I hope you are all OK. Sad stories. As a newby to fibroids, are there any successful stories on managing, controlling, getting rid of large fibroid. Looking for some success stories. We live in Jersey, but at some point can travel to UK if necessary.

Has she had thyroid levels tested. Is she hypothyroid?

Thyroid dysfunction can lead to infertility, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids, low libido, irregular menstrual periods, and difficulties during menopause.
When my fibroids were diagnosed I was offered a mirena coil, which helped lots, no heavy periods.
When I was diagnosed with fibroids of similar size (a bit larger) I had had them for about a decade, gradually getting worse and worse. I was told my options were 1)do nothing and 2)hysterectomy. This was in the early 2000s. I was 49, had completed my family long before, so I took the latter choice very very reluctantly and feeing it was barbaric.: why not solve the problem instead of removing the organ under attack? I thought. I thought it was misogynist and brutal. I was against it every step of the way. However, I was proven wrong: good heavens, life without that pain and all those problems (I experienced a lot of flooding) has been so much better ever since, and I wish I had done it years prior. It is a major, major operation, however, so if you ever do choose that route don't take it lightly (plan for a lot more down time than they tell you). Good luck.
Thank you. Very similar scenario for my daughter. Seems as though the Gyn will always be pushing for hysterectomy and only answer any other questions IF you know what to ask - full or partial, and how best to manage it. "Their narrative". This last weekend she had extra pains and other symptoms, and the diagnosis is/was that it was some sort of virus (no, not covid).
If your daughter has completed her family, I can highly recommend hysterectomy, going on my own experience. I had one at age 50 and I don’t know the size in cm, but the surgeon said it was the size of an eight month foetus! It does need about three months of no heavy lifting or strenuous activity afterwards.
