Daughter STILL having issues. GP has now advised to take meds before food to see if that works 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ It's quite clear something is not working and it needs investigating so I'm pushing for that now.
Is there a possibility that Levothyroxine has stopped working or is losing it's efficiency? She's been taking it since 3 weeks old.
Can someone post the link to a home blood test kit they've found works too please?
Many thanks
Xx

I would include antibodies so go for the Thyroid Premium Silver and I don't normally suggest having doctor's comments but in this case I would suggest you have them and wait the extra couple of days for the results.
How long has it been since her results have changed like this?
Was there a change of brand of Levo?
Has she tried a different brand to see if levels improve?
If it's nothing to do with the brand of Levo then I think she needs an urgent appointment with a thyroid specialist, not just any old endo as most are diabetes specialists, but your GP should seek a a thyroid specialist.
There is such a thing as "resistance to thyroid hormone". I don't know if it can suddenly develop but it's worth looking into, if you think this may be the case then gather evidence and give it to your GP or endo. A forum search brings up the following:
Ah fab, thank you. Yes being 16 I was struggling to find a test available to her!Her results have been this bad for ages so I'll ask to see a thyroid specialist.
No, brand hasn't changed nor has she tried a different brand either so that will be something I'll be requesting too.
Do push for a proper thyroid specialist. GP will probably just refer to the local endocrinologist and I would lay money on it being a diabetes specialist. You may need to do some research to find a proper thyroid specialist, or your GP may have this information, but it is most important you don't see just a diabetes specialist as they don't know enough about the thyroid. There seems to be something very unusual going on here and even a thyroid specialist may have a hard time discovering what it is. Thyroid hormone resistance is probably something most specialists haven't heard of but as it might be a possibility you need to see someone who has knowledge of this.
I've just had a quick search for a specialist and there are a few in London. I'm going to ask to be referred to them. I doubt my request will be granted but I won't know if I don't ask!
OK So, doubt if taking them before eating would help. The whole point is to take them on an empty stomach, and 2 to 3 hours after a meal her stomach probably would be empty. But, you never know, so worth trying taking before the meal, and then waiting an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water.
She used to do that but because of the fatigue she's experiencing it meant she wasn't taking them at a regular time so in order to combat this it was suggested she takes them before bed instead. Now she takes them at 10pm.
