Does elevated antibodies always mean hashimoto? My TSH is 4.19
Thyroid Antibodies result: Does elevated... - Thyroid UK
Thyroid Antibodies result
You can read a lot about Hashimotos on Thyroid UK's website. My understanding is that if you have raised TPO antibodies then there is a very much increased likelihood of antibodies activity damaging the thyroid and causing hypothyroidism. Not everyone with thyroid antibodies develops hypothyroidism.
It's important to test essential vitamin levels as less than optimal nutritional levels can affect thyroid function, it seems.
So test Vit D, folate, ferritin and B12. If any of these are low, even if within NHS range then it may affect thyroid function. Once you have test results then post on this forum along with the lab ranges for best advice. Also post latest results for TSH, FT4 and FT3 with the lab ranges.
It appears that your thyroid may be beginning to struggle but without the additional information it's hard for people to give best advice.
Thank you, this was all tested previously and I am on iron tablets. I then waited 6 weeks to have this test done along with TSH and t4 as shown below. All other tests were normal
Can I also check, do the antibodies automatically mean hashimoto?
Technically if thyroid function is outside of the normal range due to the activity of antibodies it would be referred to as autoimmune thyroiditis. But this covers a few thyroid conditions and isn't specific to Hashimotos alone.
No.
Antibodies can also occur after physical damage - whether intentional (an operation) or accidental (car crash).
I am also just about to remove the images you have attached as they contain too much information such as doctor's name, location, etc. This is for YOUR protection.
Please re-add them without these details.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's - I had elevated anti-TPO levels but all my other levels were normal. I just posted about it today because I got my lab results recently and I'm back to normal. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Hi. I have elevated TPO antibodies but I have Graves. I also had TSI and TRAb tested. All 3 were highly elevated indicating Graves. I’m only chipping in to say elevated TPO can be present at both ends of thyroid AI so not exclusive to Hashimoto disease. I do not think u have Graves just to be clear.
Thank you,I know it definitely isn’t graves as that is linked to hyperthyroidism and my results are the other way but from what you are saying it is either one or the other? I hope you are as well as you can be too
Once in 2014 my TSH was 4.0 range 0.5 to 4.0 so like you on the border but I did not get any treatment. I think getting those core vitamins in place would be a great start to help the thyroid and see if u feel any improvement from there. Hopefully Slow Dragon will come along with some more specific advice
I would edit your photo - it gives a lot of detail and information that we don’t need to know.
You may find some interesting information about thyroid antibodies and their significance in the link below. It can be quite technical reading but Dr Tania Smith gives the best explanations of all things thyroid in her blog posts of anyone I have encountered:
