Hypothyroidism - Menses late, Negative Preg Test

Hi, I'm 29 this year and was diagnosed hypothyroidism early Feb'21 and was placed on medication. Menses has been very regular within 32-34 days every month. Have been trying for kids for the past year.

On 3 May, I did an positive ovulation test and we try for kids.

My menses is due to start on 22 May but was late until now. (3 weeks and counting)

Took 2 pregnancy test and the results still shows negative. Went to clinic and doctor advise for a detailed blood test that could be sensitive enough to have a precise reading.

Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

Welcome to the forum

How high was TSH before starting on levothyroxine

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking and how long on this dose?

Thyroid levels should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels tested

Very common to have low vitamin levels when hypothyroid

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested to see if cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

Hi,

Feb'21 Lab Test Result

Free T4:

9.13L (10.0 - 23.0) pmol / L

TSH:

9.064 H (0.45 - 4.5) mIU / L

Doctor prescribe 50 mcg thyroxine (euthyrox) for 2 months.

10 April'21: Re-Test

Free T4:

17.4 pmol/L (12.0 - 22.0)

TSH :

1.30 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.20)

Doctor said there's improvement, and continue with the similar dosage.

03 May ovulated and tried for kids.

22 May menses was late until now.

Took 2 preg test all negative

Doctor suggest blood test with higher sensitivity.

50mcg is only a starter dose

Bloods must be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Aim is to be on high enough dose that TSH is around 1 and FT4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range

Always test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything apart from water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Likely to need at least 2 further 25mcg increases

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Come back with new post once you get next test results
