How do I obtain blood test results from a+e?

Two nights ago I ended up at a+e with high BP. Was there for nearly 12 hours. Before admission paramedics recorded my BP 201/101 pulse 81. Many more fluctuating reading in red alert status.

Triage carried out BP reading. Still in red alert. Had no more BP checks after that one. Then came hours of futile waiting to see an actual doctor. By this time it was 7 30am (changed over to day staff).

9am a trainer (something or other) questioned me about medical history and my symptoms. My replies were wrote down in a little tatty note book. Then she finally decided to do my blood pressure. OMG the BP machine was broken so she could not do a reading. Had no more BP tests after that failed attempt.

Finally saw a fully qualified doctor at about 11am for roughly 3 minutes, (could have been less time). First question he asked me was, "Do you have a spray for Angina" . Baffled, brain dead, confused and so tired, I replied, "I don't have angina. I have AFib, Left Atrial Dilation, mitral stenosis, hypertension and hypothyroidism"

The dangerously high BP I was admitted with was not mentioned at all. Bloody heck I felt so unreal, bewildered like I was in an alien land and I could not comprehend or relate to where this doctor was coming from.

He did say that he would refer me to a chest pain clinic. I was initially admitted with BP problem. Not once did I mention chest pain. What the hell went on here?

Needless to say checked my BP when I got home. Still had red alert fluctuating numbers with occasional Amber alerts. Defeated, scared and deflated I crawled into bed.

The so called professional doctor did tell me that my blood results were normal. Going by the rush he was in he may not have even looked at my blood results. If Only for thyroid results, I need a copy of those blood results.

Does anyone know how I can get a copy of blood results that was taken when I was admitted to a+e?

Really would appreciate some help

I had a very similar experience recently. Somebody on here told me to google the name of the hospital and SAR (Subject Access Request), and low and behold, up came the form. I asked for copies of all records of that A&E visit (as opposed to all my records). It took about 6 weeks. You need to send a copy of photo id.

My GP could see results processed by the path lab, but I also had a sample processed by a machine in A&E and he couldn't see those.

When I received the copy of the notes taken by the 'junior' I found that vital info I had given had not been recorded. I was not seen by a senior clinician all.

Nellie why photo id? They don't have a photo of me on file. Or do they

I don't think they've got photo's of us on file. I think it's more 'just in case' something comes up, they've done their due diligence. I think a copy birth certificate would probably suffice.

Just found SAR form. Photo id like passport or driving licence. The one I am reading is for a DEAD person. Can you use this if you are alive...well just about alive after experience at a+e. Lol

Hello nellie237 Did you have to pay?

I expect it gets more complicated when someone is dead, so I think I'd try and avoid that form. If there is a telephone number on the form, I'd try and call to ask for the correct link for the form that you need.

"well just about alive after experience at a+e. Lol" I know exactly what you mean.

If you ring the hospital and speak to PALS department they should be able to help you get the information you need and they will help you fill out my appropriate forms if needed

Thank you Karen321 will do as you suggested. I thought PALS only dealt with complaints. Mmmmm now that's food for thought.

Just to let you know DizzyD hospitals are just as bad if not worse even today. I had a similar experience to you at pinderfields hospital A&E blood pressure over 200, sat in A&E for hours until it dropped to 150 then they sent me home and told me to go see my gp
