Good morning Guys, so last week I put a post about been diagnosed, i have had more results and have to wait for 1 week for a telephone consult with the doctor to discuss them and i would like to be prepared and know what i am talking about.
25th May
ESR 28mm/h range 1-12 - my ESR has always been high - no-one knows why
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine
Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking
Dose levothyroxine should be increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is ALWAYS under 2 as maximum
Most important results are always Ft3, followed by Ft4.
Aiming for ideally both approx 60% through range
TPO antibodies negative
As greygoose says, NHS refuses to test TG antibodies unless TPO antibodies are positive.
Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies..
And 20% never have high thyroid antibodies
Perhaps consider getting full thyroid testing in few weeks privately....especially as NHS almost never test Ft3 and can even be difficult to get Ft4 tested
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.
