Can anyone tell me how surgery would affect my thyroid levels - had breast cancer surgery 8 weeks ago and feeling that thyroid levels low now even though I’ve taken medication well throughout.
Thanks

First of all, I am really sorry you had a diagnosis of cancer and had to undergo an operation. I hope you are now on the road to recovery.
Do you feel fit enough to have a new blood test, to put your mind at rest? I would suggest you make a new appointment to have your thyroid levels retested if doctor hasn't already done so.
Trauma such as a heart attack or major surgery can cause a condition called ‘non thyroidal illness’ which is temporary and leads to low TSH and fT3. To check this out you should have TSH, fT3 and fT4 measured.
I had surgery on my foot over a year ago and it knocked me right back to square one with my thyroid. So I would say yes, it can effect us very much. I’m sending warm get well wishes to you and hope you are feeling much better very soon x
Had kidney cancer 10 years ago but unable to verify whether this had any effect on thyroid as already quite unwell following TT and on inappropriate levothyroxine monotherapy some years previously.
