Short synathcen test with baseline Acth

Good Morning hope some one can advise please I'm due to have the above test soon does biotin interfere with this test ? If so how long do I leave my Ingennes super b complex off does anything else interfere with this test

Biotin can give an elevated cortisol result so ca the oestrogen contraceptive pill & HRT. Ideally it's best to stop them for 6 weeks prior to the test.

Hi There, I knew it did with thyroid so I wanted to check if anyone might have had this test on here ? although the consultant said it's a small amount it wouldnt skew results but I'm a bit wary now as this is my first private consultation but I do want this test as my Nhs endo is now only testing Tsh t4 no T3 and I havent heard from him since last January he looks at numbers and its your okay attitude but Thank You for your reply I'll see how things go

Hi There I'm going to book my appointment hopefully next Friday but she said its 9.30am as they dont open till after 9am and as I'm self funding and would be paying a lot of money I'd like to know it's a good time to do this test as I was told between 8am to 9am is best ?

That will be fine - hope you get some answers. Make sure that they do an ACTH blood test before the inject you with the artificial ACTH. It needs to go onto ice or straight to the lab. The ACTH indicates whether the issue is a pituitary one rather than adrenal cause. The will do a baseline cortisol as well, the cortisol result at 30mins should be more than 450nmol/Ls.

Thank You it's just another thing I can rule out or find out my NHS Endo was very disappointing big let down

That's tough, unfortunately many NHS Endo's don't have enough experience of pituitary/adrenal issues dealing more with diabetes.

On my email its says done over 90 mins

It varies from hospital to hospital, some just take blood at 30 mins, & others do both 30 & 60 mins.

Yes I hear that all the time but I thought in the beginning mine was going to be okay but ended up just looking at numbers my Gp could do that
