Sore eyes and swollen eyelids

Hi, I'm currently suffering from sore eyes and swollen eyelids and area under my eyes. I do suffer with dry eyes and have had the skin under my eyes change a bit in the past but never my eyelids. They are that swollen that they actually touch my eye lashes. Anyone have any ideas what it could be or tips to help reduce the swelling? I have taken an antihistamine this morning to see if that helps and put cucumber on my eyes last night.

I think you need to see a medical professional, and depending on where you live this could be a retail optician or an eye unit of a hospital, or your doctor - but please just ensure that whatever lotions, potions, gel and drops you are offered they are all preservative free :

There are heavy duty grease type " gunk " for overnight use, just as there are single use drops of what appear to be " just ' water for daytime use, and various products and sprays to choose from.

You may also find after a time you need t swop brands :

Good, the like button isn't working, so just a thank you and please go sooner rather than later - eyes are so special and I don't like to think of people hurting when generally there is no need to - been there and know it's not nice.

Make an appointment with a local optomotrist - they can be found in a local opticians and they are skilled in eye conditions. Your GP should have the information you need.

I saw mine again today as a follow-up and was given eye lotion and advice. She will also inform my GP.

While you are waiting to see the optician, do use preservative free eye drops liberally; both HycoSan and HyloForte are good choices. Do mention having a thyroid condition when you see the optician, as it can be thyroid related. I have taken diuretics to help ease swelling; natural ones like dandelion & prescription (furosemide) & the latter did help initially. I take a selenium supplement daily, as this was recommended by ophthalmologist (I have Thyroid Eye Disease) What are your current thyroid blood levels? Could you be undermedicated?

Thank you for your reply. I posted them about 2 weeks ago, tsh could do with an improvement as probably the t3 could too. Maybe I should up my dose a little.

I'm sorry to hear this. Mine is thyroid eye disease. I would book an appointment with your optician asap and ask to be referred.
