Hi

What vitamins should I stop taking before a thyroid panel test, iron test and vitamin level test. How long before the test should I stop taking these. I would be grateful if you could help.

Thank you

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Always stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests as biotin can falsely affect test results

If testing iron and ferritin levels stop any iron supplements a week before testing and don’t eat iron rich foods in 24 hours before test

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Hi I'm taking pregnacare, liquid iron, ubiquinol, omega 3 fish oil, larginine, n- acetyl cysteine. My blood test will be I about a weeks time. I will just stop taking all of these until the blood test. Pregnacare and the liquid iron both contain biotin.

B Complex and Biotin - leave off for 7 days before any blood test.

Iron - leave off for 7 days before any iron test.

B12 - leave off for 4-5 months if you want a baseline level to see what you are holding on to.

Everything else you can continue but take after the test on the day.

I'm not on a b12 supplement on its own. The vitamin b12 is in the pregnacare tablets and the liquid iron. Will that make a difference?

I gave you a general list of all supplements that need to be left off for certain tests.

If you are having an iron test then you probably should leave off the supplement containing the iron but any supplement that contains biotin definitely should be left off.
