Hello, I woke up after a night with a sore and irritated eye with double vision. Have any of you had eye problems that accompany thyroid issues?

I think you probably need to seek medical advice ASAP, BC1980–or at least an optician’s advice. Double vision isn’t generally a thyroid-related issue.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

I had similar issue at Christmas. I booked an appointment with an optician. My eyesight is great but they said I had severe dry eye. They gave me eye drops and it helped. They said it could be hormone related. I have recently see an endocrinologist and as a result I am taking a range of vitamins. Blurry vision is better but does occur now and again.

I think blurred vision can be linked to hypothyroidism

I would agree that you need to book to see an optician ASAP. I have thyroid eye disease & have problems with dry eye, but no double vision, although others with TED do have double vision. Preservative free eye drops like HycoSan or HyloForte are good for dryness. If your optician suspects that your eyes may be affected by your thyroid condition, it’s a good idea to take a selenium supplement. Please don’t panic, as many eye issues do resolve without any treatment. It’s just best to get them checked. Do keep posting if you need further support or advice BC1980.

Thanks for the feedback! Was it your optometrist that diagnosed the TED and wondering how it was diagnosed?

It was my endocrinologist who referred me to ophthalmologist as he noticed eye swelling & eye lid lag. Ophthalmologist did eye measurements, colour vision tests, eye pressure as well as usual vision checks.

It's probably best to have that checked by an optometrist. In the mean time maybe this is helpful: btf-thyroid.org/thyroid-eye...

Sound more like a b12 or iron deficiency symptom Known as blurry vision

Hello, what thyroid issues do you have? Some people with Graves’ Disease can have a condition called Graves’ Eye Disease/ Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). In some cases, TED can cause double vision. I have mild TED so no double vision but I do have a bit of bulging and dryness.
