Which moisturiser does everyone find works best for the prickly dry skin that most suffer with? Thanks :)

My daughter has always had dry, red, prickly skin at the top on the back of her arms but now it's becoming more apparent on her thighs and even her stomach too. Someone suggested Cerave?

Not a medical product but Vaseline intensive Care - the white dry skin one - is pretty good.

That might be Keratosis Pilaris. I’ve always had it, but it’s better now that I’m older. I find it best to moisturise with oil right out of the shower before I’m completely dry. I use olive oil, but almond oil is a good choice.

I also use Vaseline Intensive Care after a shower but I don’t suffer like that.

If it’s really a problem I’d be tempted to try aqueous cream which is cheap to buy from Boots. My son was prescribed it to use both as a soap and as a cream when he had bad eczema as a child. My husband uses it all the time (he has no thyroid problem)

Not sure if others suffer like this due to their thyroid? I’d be tempted to look at things like washing powders etc. I expect you probably have, but I thought I’d mention it. Some shampoos bring up dry scaly skin on my eyelids even though it goes nowhere near them.

I used this and it dissolves the bumps. I didn't suffer terribly but I did find this was brilliant. I just used the cream after the shower but this set looks good. Can definitely recommend the moisturiser. Good luck 😎ameliorate.com/ameliorate-t...

Vanessa , I hope your daughter might try Dermol 500 lotion , it was prescribed by my Doctor for me and my prescriptions are free .

It comes in a pump bottle and is very absorbing and is for the condition that your daughter has , and other conditions too . I use it in the shower instead of soap and reapply when I come out and dry off .

On second thoughts , if her itching dry skin is caused by a fungal infection or yeast , like many of us have she could try KETOCONAZOLE 2% .Shampoo or body wash , also on prescription , which will eradicate it .

Best of Luck. Mx🌹

I use pure organic avocado oil from the grocery store. It sinks in very easily, has no additives or perfume and if she does not get on with it, just use it in your cooking!

I have some Frylite avacado oil spray so I'll spritz her with that later 😜

I can't remember where I read this so cannot provide a link to the info, but I read somewhere that low zinc can cause the problem. Perhaps you need to treat the cause rather than trying to remedy the symptom?

Good luck

I use palmers coconut oil. I have psoriasis. Has she seen a dermatologist and gotten a proper diagnosis with medication?

Hi everyone, thank you all for your tips and advice. Over the years I've tried many different laundry products so it's definitely not that but shampoos drying her skin out is something I have never thought about!

She's been tested for lots of different medical issues so I'm almost certain it's not a Zinc problem however I will double check this.

It's there 24/7 and has been since a young child so I'm certain it's not an infection.

We do think it is Keratosis Pilaris however it hasn't been diagnosed just yet, I thought I'd try at home treatments first so I'm going to get her some almond oil and go from there.

Thank you so much everyone! ❤

I found that giving up gluten and using Amlactin worked for me.
