Coffee and food and NDT

Hi I can’t remember and so Can anyone advise if it’s half an hour or an hour that you should stay off coffee when taking NDT ?

Also is it 2 hours or 3 hrs after food and an hour before food ? Thank you 😊

I would treat all thyroid meds the same and for Levo it's advised to take on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after food, with water only, and water only for one hour either side.

I would always take it when I awake with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating. Food can interfere with its uptake.

I take my thyroid meds at night time, around 10pm,i eat last food of the day around 4-5pm. No need to avoid anything then, or have to wait.

And I think there's research done, with absorbtion being better, as our system slows down while we sleep.

With Levo they say half an hour but I find personally waiting at least 45 minutes before food or drink is better for absorption. And for meds after food/drink its three hours. T3 is ok at any time, but T4 needs to be on an empty tummy.

I take my thyroid meds very early in the morning when I get up to go to the bathroom(around 2 AM) and then have breakfast around 7 AM, that way I don’t worry about food interfering with my meds.

That’s a good idea . Not sure I’d remember to take them at that time though . Don’t they make you wired at that time? Or is that Levo only u take not T3/T4 combination?

Actually no, I go back to sleep right away, I haven’t had any problems with sleep dosing that way. I also take 5 mcg of t3 along with the levoxyl. I take both all at once without problems with sleep. I always put both pills in a separate container that way I know I took them. It’s funny how my body works, is like having an internal clock that goes off at 1:30/2:00 AM without fail. 😊
